The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

Article w/Professional Trainer on Danger of NYC Police Stampeding Crowds w/Horses on 2/15

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Monday February 17, 2003 05:22author by Vinceauthor email TheConstitutionrules at hotmail dot com Report this post to the editors

Wish I could have posted my pics of the charge of the NYC horse brigade into crowds, but the server won't accomodate. Please, when you have time go to NYC IMC to read the many first-hand accounts from 2/15. I personally feel it's important people read what happened to us. Yesterday, some joked with me that I didn't end as is my habit "Vince from the land of the free." Of course, I couldn't. What before was anger/irony, now feels so painfully real. I feel viscerally and spiritually sick. It was so ignorant of the cops/administration/judge and unnecessary yesterday. The cops were the problem, not the diverse and peaceful anti-war protesters. Well, my interview with the horse trainer/breeder as follows:

I interviewd an animal breeder/trainer in South Jersey, USA, a fellow progressive, who was not at the demonstration, and has chosen to remain anonymous. The following words are his:

"Vince, protestors have no idea what danger they were in! There is a specific type of horse, as in war horse, and a very particular Tactical Police Force with these horses. There is also a forced stampede and a horse-genetic imprint stampede. WOW!

There is no such thing as a controlled stampede. Horses spook easily and then when in groups form a group known as a flight pack. The NYPD knows it would have no control over their chargers and the horses would merely form a tightly knit pack and "go with the flow."

I'm glad to learn that at least one broadcast network carried the charge of the horses on one of its news broadcasts, but no one really watches the news at 11:00 PM. Secondary time. Not prime time.

You may recall the outgoing Minister of Justice of Germany, a brave woman, who likened George Bush to Adolph Hitler. She used the rapid rearmament and war policy to stimulate the economy as just one example.

I fear now, going to Crystal Nacht, that George "W" and his very own Dr. Goebbels, aka, that publicity shit-queen, Rudi Giuliani, have developed the same funeral celebration bravado as Hitler and Goebbels. Humdrum German citizens vaulted into Gods and Goddesses. Sorry to say this. But the thousands of World Trade Center workers and the firefighters and policeman who lost their lives were everyday folk. Ditto the mediocre science performed by not-top-flight minds aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia.

But when you have actually witnessed first hand what I have only postulated to be a shadow "Brown Shirt" army, then I am really nervous.
There is an entire new department of the Police Department called the Hercules squad. I wish the Republicans would leave the names of ancient Greek heroes and demi-gods alone."

It all seems so familiar...big business and fascism are interdependant entities, and its definitely big business at the wheel in the US, and the police state seems to be gathering its forces against dissent.

To Vince

Your Crystal Nacht was a Crystal Day and that took place on the 11th Sept 2001. Just like
in Germany when all the laws came in against the Jews, after 9/11, the Patriot Act and lots
of other repressive stuff came in after 9/11 against ordinary people and those who dissent.

I heard recently even as late as 1938, Hitler had only around 25% support from the German people,
but what he had was control of the police and military and the means of propaganda -the media.

It is the same now.

The police are not the problem. They do not act independently. In NY the police are a para-military under the control the Mayor, the billionaire, Bloomberg. Lets see now if he bans the St. Patrick's Day parade.
