The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

video footage needed

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Sunday February 16, 2003 23:08author by please helpauthor email littlejimmycarter at hotmail dot com Report this post to the editors

false accusations against protester

i need anyone who may have video footage of me on dame street as the police dispersed the crowd
i was the spa who kept dancing in the middle of the road and was subsequently thrown in a van

ive been given 4 charges, including assaulting a police officer
apparantly i punched him in the back of the head after giving him a torrent of verbal abuse (obviously untrue to anyone who saw, as i did not say one word.......just wouldn't stop dancing)
ive already got 3 witnesses to back me up on this
but would love to find some solid evidence
i know there were photos taken but they can't prove the charges are lies whereas a video certainly would

please please get in contact soon
:)

Depending on how far away you were, you might have been seen by the ones attached to the roof of the central bank.

Anyway, that entire area is covered by garda CCTV which ends up in the station in O'Connell street, although it's highly doubtful you could get access to it.

I have been an observer on past court cases involving IMC journalists and RTS protestors, and video evidence is VERY IMPORTANT if you are to mount a good defense. In most cases, video evidence was the one factor that lead to charges been dismissed by the judge. Pull out all the stops and obtain the footage. check with shops, pubs, etc.

Also, get yourself a fucken shit hot barister (forget free legal aid)who has experience with this sort of case. S/he will get you off!

What happens in reality and what happens in a court of law are two competely differnt things. So dig in, fight hard, and have fun.

Best of luck.

I took some photos of a spa(don't be so hard on yourseld) dancing in front a van, unfortunatly they'r very bad quality dur to the low light conditions. I'll try and touch them up and see if I can brighten the colours tonight, but I don't hold up much hope of getting anything that would be decent enough to use as eveidence. Sorry! If i do' I'll email them to ya.

I saw the Gardai grab you so I decided to tape what happened (just in case there was any underhanded stuff)

I was across the street with a camcorder with a built in light as well as a good zoom.
I have watched the tape a few times.
It clearly shows you dancing on the street while a Garda is holding your sleeve.
The garda appears to be unhurt and is chatting with a colleague while holding your arm.
It was quite comical actually.

They wanted everyone off the road, and you kept dancing there, then they took you off to the transit van by the traffic lights, and presumably down to Pearse Street.

I'd be more than happy to provide a copy of this tape to you or your solicitor.

I'm sure we'll be told that the helicopter camera got footage of you doing worse, but we won't be shown it.

Just like the RTS media coverage.
"It is REPORTED that the Garda Helicopter footage shows protestors behaving violently" and nobody ever saw that tape.

I have photos of the guy who got arrested on the 29th so whoever that spa was if they need pics I have them, from before the police horses blocked the view....
Good luck with your case though!
