The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

is there an address where people can send letters of support to the prisones?
i'm assuming they're not all together so it's best to write to them each individually?
how long will they be kept in for?

They're all back in court on 21st Feb at Ennis. Ciaran O'Reilly and Karen Fallon are being held in Limerick Prison. I guess c/o etc. will get any post to them. The others are on bail and I'm not sure how you could get in touch with them. Anybody know? (Probably best not to print the addresses on here eh?)
I'm sure any support would be well received, even if it's only a card or a few lines.

I am in sympathy with the Jesus freaks. They are so overcome by a reiligous fervor that they cannot be considered rational. However, anyone who is genuinely commited to getting mass support for the anti-war campaign must accept that they have far more damage than good. They have done nothing to stop the military build up in the Gulf and rather have done serious damage to the campaign by allowing the media to fall back onto easy sterotypes and by scareing off those who were coming over to our side. I certainly won't be lighting candles for their release. The longer they spend basking in their maryterdom in Limerick prison, the less likely they are to fuck things up even more. Unless of course they have inherited Padro Pio's powers of bi-location....SIDE SHOW FREAKS.....

all five of the catholic workers are being detained in Limerick Prison. it is best to send one set of letters to the men, Damien Moran and Ciaron O'Reilly and another set to the Women, Nuin Dunlop, Karen Fallon and Diedre Clancy. They would really appreciate your letters to raise their morale. Also if you are intending on visiting them, we are suggesting that everyone meet in the waiting room at 2pm (not on sundays) so that the visits can be coordinated in such away that all five can be met at the same time. this means they get to see each other and visitors can meet with them all. Nuin, from the US and Karen from Scotland are far from home,it would be great to show that they are in our thoughts too. Another Vigil has been organised for thursday at 8pm outside the prison gates to show solidarity for all five.

ya lets all pray together that the famous five are detained as long as possible and then we will know at least we have 5 idiots off the streets.
