We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

Government gives money to rich Swiss Bankers

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Saturday February 08, 2003 12:15author by James McKenna Report this post to the editors

Selling out Irish schools and hospitals for War paraphenalia

While we have been repeatedly told what a great financial boon to the Irish economy and the Shannon region in particular there is from allowing US war business there, it now turns out that the total take for all warplanes in 2002 was a measly 9 million euro. Just enough to buy one of the eight new turbo propellor training aircraft for the Air Corps. In total Minister Smith on January 16 2003 gave 60 million of our euro to a consortium of mainly Swiss Bankers for something we don't need while chldren need proper schools and the sick need proper and prompt care . He even spent 6 million on improving the runway for the arrival of his new toys!

Here are the people who have been given our money by Minister Smith and Mr Ahern while Harney and assorted muppetts make strange sounds.

Pilatus Aircraft Ltd, Stans, Switzerland. Owned by a Swiss Investor Group consisting of:

· Dr. Joerg Burkart, Zurich acts as private Investor focused on Swiss corporations. Amongst other companies, he holds interests
in Komax and Schulthess.

· Mr. Hilmar Hilmarsson, is Icelandic now living in Switzerland.

· Pension Fund of F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG, Basel . The same pharmaceutical firm who makes Valium and Librium , during the 1970's poisoned an Italian village and recently had to pay out half a billion dollars in the US for price fixing.

· IHAG Holding AG in Zurich, is the private bank of the Bührle family and is managed by Gratian Anda. The bank, which employs 78 people, is owned by the families of Dr. Dietrich Buhrle and Hortense Anda-Buhrle. Privatbank Ihag Zurich said its operating profit in 2000 rose 61% to Sfr85 million on revenues of Sfr111 million.

Can we cancel the contract as we have not yet taken dekivery of the planes? I would prefer MY money goes elsewhere Minister Smithz ! I see a lot of Schools with holes in the walls where rats run in and out why children sit huddled in their coats and hats.

Fishermen will be astonished to hear Minister Smithz decided to spend money on toy war-planes while they still rely for the most part on the Royal Air Force for emergency helicopter lifts.

This minister is an absolute disgrace!

Are you really not aware that as part of the war on terror that all civilised countries need to strengthen their defence potential. Remember 9/11, the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
