We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

"Detachments including the Royal Irish Regiment (RIR) and 42 Commando are expected to lead the offensive because of their experience in urban combat."**

"UK forces - because of their recent experience of urban operations in Northern Ireland and Kosovo - have been identified for the task in preference to US troops, "

Spiffing Idea. And why don't all these anarchist chappies who are so interested in direct action give a dig out and maybe we can really get the message across. What.

I'd be surprised if the Anarchists were opposed to this. I was just sounding out opinions from SP, SWP, SF etc.

There is that West Belfast Anti Gulf War meeting on Wednesday, I'm sure the RIR role will be discussed there.

Isnt there also some Belfast Demo/picket on 8 February?

Yeah I reckon if an intelligent way can be thought up of targetting British army involvement in the war that does not simply appear to be a SF front then a lot of anarchists would be interested in doing this. It probably makes as much sense, if not more, then going after Shannon.

The SP will not get involved because it would alienate Loyalists. Couldnt have that now.

If Sf are involved then they will use that as an excuse not to get involved. The demo will be condemned as being - Sectarian!
