British TV Comedy Has Lost its Class Sat Nov 22, 2025 17:00 | Finlay McLaren
The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

Thank Lockdowns for the Worst Budget in History Sat Nov 22, 2025 13:00 | Will Jones
We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill
It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

There isn't an office of an arms company in the Engineering block in UCD.
However there are connections between the UCD Engineering Department and the arms industry.
I'm currently researching the extent of these conections and when I find out the full details I'll post them up on the site.
Of course I think that any connection between UCD and companies that profit from designing machinery that kills people is completely abhorrent and is the legitimate target of anti war protest.
The suggestion that Fianna Fail would even consider attending an anti war meeting has me rolling around on the floor dying of laughter. Those of the Ogra Fianna Fail are indoctrinated into believing whatever it is that their party heads say. They are fed answers that they spout back straight at you. Just thought that it was really funny that you would even consider that Fianna Fail would want to come. This leads me to one and only one conclusion. Trotwatch you are not part of any movement on the ground. You are more than likely writing away from some government building somewhere trying to distract those in the movement from their true objectives. What other explanation could there be for droppinf Fianna Fail into that sentence earlier on?
SP UCD OK.
with film rights.
and little merchandising toys.
and biscuit tie-ins with McDonalds.
I am fully entitled to raise differences with other groups and individuals. I dont think that the Labour leadership are sincere in their opposition to the war, they put illusions in the UN, etc. While I do think that many of their membership are genuinely against the war.
FF people are of course fully entitled to turn up to anti-war stuff.
'trotwatch' grow up! stop having a go at the SP in ucd for no reason, you are the sectarian!
going to liquidation and that.
There was an implosion of anarchist presses in the eighties when most editors fought a general strike in anachist writers. It went on for years. Unfortunately the anarchists were´n´t able to pass the motion at the "how to organise a help us campaign" assembly. Went on for ages. I of course was too young to take part in that. Anyway it´s about time that the anarchist presses asopted some sort of regularisation of teh industry and offered fulltime contracts to both their house staff and the occasional freelancers, and as for teh pension fund, terrible what happened to all that money. Mortgages were lost in the pension fund anarchist press scandals. My grnadmother lost her hip replacement money in that one, though I was too young to vote. (Couldn´t find the assembly anyway, wandering around ina daze for ages outside).
And when you want a book that´s out of print.
well you can forget the anarchist presses.
I can go into any highstreet branch of one of the three book multinationalcorporations and get my Harry Potter but can I find a copy of the old vampire? no.
I´ve written to them, you know.
in strong terms.
letters of complaint.
very different style of vocabulary in the letters of complaint.
And the anarchist printers.
did you ever find such a useless bunch. You say to one of them I need a hundred calenders done up by the first of next month. Do you get them?
No.
always missing their deadlines.
and their pricing?
get real.
and their special edition reruns.
a joke.
I´ve collected all the squatter guides since the first and did I get my folder? no.
I wrote a letter of complaint.
quite naturally.
well wouldn´t you.
it´s important.
···············it´s truly scandalous
···············I want my vote.
I remember the original Trotwatch. An A4 magazine came out in 1992, which covered Militant, SWP, WRP splinters, RCP, RCG etc.
It was quite amusing. The Carry On Recruiting was a pamphlet about the SWP. (Mock Socialist Worker Cover with AK47 on it & slogan: TUC Must Arm The Workers!)
Didnt see anymore from them after that.
It was printed by some Anarchist press.
I must do that search, I find the Vampire Alert intriguing.
( I doubt if there any connection with this "Trotwatch")

······{Trotwatch used not like the Swimmies}······
You are the sectarian one around here. You attack Labour on any and every policy when its the war that is under discussion. I wouldnt be surprised if you have organised for the Labour speaker to be heckled.
You did not answer: are FF members welcome at the protest?
if you were at any of the UCD anti-war group meetings you will know that people from different organisations will be participating. The 'teach-in' will include SP, SWP and even a Labour speaker. For all I know the others speaking could be in GP etc.
Trotwatch, why dont you just grow up and get over your sectarian and petty hatred of others.
Will SF,Labour, the Greens, Fianna Fail and others be allowed to attend this without being abused?
Hey I'm mid way through getting in touch with all the colleges in the country about passing war motions in the Class Reps Councils and getting the SUs to support anti war stuff.
Anyway if any of ye are students and want to get involved please get in touch - my email is above. Also it would be cool to get updates on how different colleges are progressing. There's a group here working on the wording of a motion - we'll post it up when its done - or maybe we'll just use yours!
So far also I've got replies from people in the following colleges who are interested -
NUIG, UCD, DCU, UCC, Carlow IT, Limerick Art College, Mary I, UL, Dundalk IT, Letterkenny IT, DIT. If you are in any of these places get in touch an I will forward you these peoples contact details. I've rang, left messages and mailed most of the other colleges just waiting for a response.
Some people are interested in having a student presence at the demo on the 15th - ie I suppose this would be like we'd all stand together or something - I don't know - what do you think?
