The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

Don't accuse Anyoune of anything or they might get off - Erron is Fatally Corrupt - more RTS news

I wonder did these guys think of this all by themselves

Or is this the intended result of the investigation? How do you spell kafkaesque nightmare?

Two Gardaí involved in the policing of the controversial Reclaim the Streets rally in Dublin last May have begun legal proceedings.
The two Gardaí are hoping to stop the Garda Complaints Board taking any further proceedings against them.
A complaint of using excessive force was made against Garda Donal Corcoran following the protest in May.advertisement

advertisement It was also alleged that his colleague Garda David Gorman did not wear his identification letters and numbers.
The controversial policing of the Reclaim the Streets protest has led to 41 complaints by members of the public. Most of the complaints relate to excessive use of force by Gardaí.
In the High Court today, Garda Donal Corcoran who is stationed at Mountjoy Garda station and Garda David Gorman from Pearse Street station began proceedings to stop a Garda investigation into what happened on 6 May this year.
Four complaints of alleged excessive force were made against Garda Corcoran. One complainant said he identified Garda Corcoran from a front page picture in the Irish Times, another from video footage.
The two Gardaí are arguing that comments made at a news conference two weeks ago by the Chairman of the Garda Complaints Board, Gordon Holmes, has prejudiced their right to a fair hearing and the investigation has been wholly compromised.
At the news conference Mr Holmes criticised the failure of Gardaí to provide help with identification of officers.
Mr Justice Iarlaith O'Neill granted the Gardaí leave to take judicial review proceedings but refused an order stopping the Board from proceeding with the investigation of the complaints.

are reported by The Independent to be asking the High Court to challenge the right of the Garda Complaints Board to ask the DPP to initiate a criminal case against the thugs that ran riot. Also claiming that the GCB chair has "prejudiced their right to a fair trial". Supposedly it could delay the whole thing for 2 years.

Not a smart move by the GRA. If they're expecting support from the public about anything they're deluded while they publically associate themselves with the criminals that attacked people in the streets.

If the Gardai want to have anything other than a completely adversarial relationship with the public then they'd do well to expell the scumbags from their ranks that we saw at RTS and the Burlington PPP.

Again, I'm not happy with the fact that a couple of the uniformed (but un-numbered) louts are the only ones being prosecuted (I want to see the officers that are in charge of these people prosecuted too: they are implicated in the actions of their subordinates unless they can prove that they tried to stop them), but I do expect them to face severe criminal charges for assault and battery. Given the trust and power reposed in them by society their punishment should be consequently more severe.

Manifestly shows officers standing around without any attempt at intervention - anyone know if this group of police were also at PPP? They seemed from what I've seen to be 'blooded' beforehand.
