![]() The Life and Times of the SAS ITV recently launched a six part original TV drama called Ultimate Force about the adventures of an SAS unit. And on a lighter note than who said what on the CWI mailing list's introspective discussion on what constitues a revolutionary party (And why it happens to be the one the speaker is a member of) ITV recently launched a six part original TV drama called Ultimate Force about the adventures of an SAS unit. So, one could ask, what? Well, tonight's episode involved the SAS taking on, wait for it, a militant anti-globalisation 'gang'. This 'gang' has somehow, the advert was not clear how, got their hands on a prototype high-powered rifle and used it in an attempt on the life of a prominent banker. 'Our' heroes must track down the villians and destory them, explaining the benefits of a neo-liberal, free-market economy to these rascals as they do. Saw the tail end of the first episode and it's the usual macho bullshit though an SAS trooped did get killed so it's not a complete waste. Laughs galore as the script-writers no doubt ride rough-shod over reality as the SAS take on the anti-globalisation movement. And, no doubt, win. Anyway, this travesty of TV drama takes place on ITV at 9pm for those of you with an interest. Any one of you wishfully picturing the SAS storming a GR meeting should be ashamed of yourselves ;) The series will also include an episode about the North. As a passionate lover of really shit television, I can't wait. |
