 -A Great Success Last sunday an event called Diversity Day 2002 was held in the 'Peace Park' (aka Bishop Lucey Park) in Cork City. Somewhere in the region of 1500 people attended during the day. The event was a celebration of the increasingly multicultral nature of Cork culture as well as highlighting political, social and gender issues. Groups/ events that were involved inc. Cork Peace Alliance, Alliance for Sexual Health, Cork Community Circus, Cork cycling Campaign, SWP/ Anti War., Socialist Youth, Workers Party, Cairde (Anti Racism group), Tai Chi classes, Celtic storytelling in a Teepee, Comhlamh etc. Music was provided all day by Revelation Sound- (reggae) which was great. The event took place after long negotiations with the corporation. In the end it cost nearly 1,200 euro, inc. 750 for insurance, 300 for portaloos etc. -A great day..... |
