Thirty Left-wing MPs have written to Ofcom to press it to censor X under the Online Safety Act. The evidence of 'hate' on the platform is threadbare, but it's obvious why they want to clip its wings, says Laurie Wastell.

ACTION ALERT: CARRICKMINES CASTLE OCCUPATION

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Saturday August 31, 2002 12:47author by Graham Caswell Report this post to the editors

Help save Carrickmines Castle from the bulldozers

Help save Carrickmines Castle from the bulldozers. Join the ocupation, drop out for a visit, take pictures, shoot footage, spread the word.

In the early hours of this morning [Saturday 31 August] campaigners began an occupation of the archaeological site of Carrickmines Castle. The excavation of the site, which is still incomplete, was wound up on Friday evening to make way for the destruction of a large proportion of the site for the completion of the M50 motorway. The campaigners are calling for a
realignment of the motorway to preserve the medieval site.

The occupation is a non-violent spontaneous civil protest.

Help support the ongoing protest.

Transport: 63 Bus from Fleet Street

I support you all the way lads - go for it (put everything you have into it - ie. ACT LOCAL, THINK GLOBAL - but: why does everything have to happen just before bulldozers move it.

Surely twould have been better before. Hopefully people are ready for the Tara motoroway before they move in the cops n dozers. By the way - Bertie warport, GM crops, Nato boy, neoliberal,Nice liar Ahern is a rotten rotten Clintonesque traitor that needs to be exposed!!!

Cars are dinosaurs anyway. Destroying our history so more of them can clog up our cities and pollute our air for the few years left before the climate is destroyed and the oil runs out is pretty thick.

Stop the Road!

Saw the campaigners giving out leaflets on Grafton Street today. Was a quick operation if the occupation just started last night.
However leaflet had no e-mail or other contact, so could be worth adding that.
Best of luck.

Woodquay, Carrickmines - Spot the difference?

By now we are approaching the beginning of the third week of occupation. Systems are now in place to facilitate others who may wish to visit or stay. By virtue of our presence so far, it is my belief that had we not moved in, the NRA's contractors would have destroyed the site under the auspices of clearing the trees, bush, and shrub that are in the way of the pending roads. I would urge people to come down and take a look; see the site - but also note how close the builders are getting... Failing that, the more people that email and phone their representatives, the better; over the last couple of days a number of the TDs have been in contact with us. Needless to say, it can only help to focus their minds with the more calls made to them; they are your representatives, this is your heritage - let's get them on the case and get this sorted!
Thanks to everybody for all the support and interest -

On behalf of the Carrickminders,

Ruadhan Mac Eoin.
