IFI Documentary Festival: PUSH -Documentary on the Global Housing Crisis by Fredrik Gertten

category dublin | housing | event notice author Thursday September 19, 2019 17:32author by ifiReport this post to the editors

Global Housing Crisis

Housing prices are skyrocketing in cities around the world. Incomes are not. Private equity firms have become the biggest landlords in the world, and the extent of the high-end land grab goes well beyond gentrification. Fredrik Gertten’s probing documentary follows Leilani Farha, the UN Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing as she travels the world in an effort to understand why we are being pushed out of our cities, and why affordable housing isn’t defined as a fundamental human right.

This screening will be followed by a panel discussion.

PUSH (2019) KICKSTARTER TRAILER

Housing prices are skyrocketing in cities worldwide. Longtime residents are pushed out. Not even nurses, policemen and firefighters can afford to live in the cities that they are supposed to protect. This is not gentrification, it’s a different kind of monster: Housing as a financial asset, a place to park money.

PUSH is a new documentary from award-winning director Fredrik Gertten, investigating why we can’t afford to live in our own cities anymore. Housing is a fundamental human right, a precondition to a safe and healthy life. But in cities all around the world having a place to live is becoming more and more difficult. Who are the players and what are the factors that make housing one of today’s most pressing world issues?

Luke Ming has again done another great video although most of it is Ed Honohan exposing Vulture Funds and State Aid in Ireland.

It is a presentation by Master of the High Court in Ireland, Edmund Honohan.
European Parliament, Brussels.

Well worth watching especially in conjunction with the documentary PUSH on housing here.
