Follow-on from the only Irish conference on soils, in the International Year of Soils
Community groups, Mayo Organic Group, & The Good Life Network, are organizing a follow-on day to discuss techniques & information, from the 2015 Soils Matter conference, held in July, at Claregalway Castle.
Want to find out more about carbon sequestration? How to grow soil? How to minimize work on the land? Are we now experiencing, in our own locales, some of the effects of climate change? This is what the scientists told us to expect – weather events of a very rare & extreme kind. Our politicians & world leaders may have reached agreement, recently, as to how they are going to tackle the lowering of carbon & other greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. But, how can the individual make a contribution? The world beneath our feet, the very soil which feeds us, on which we base our lives, build our homes, drive our vehicles, acts to sequester & hold carbon & greenhouse gases, when it is living, growing & vibrant.
The Irish Soils Matter convention, held in July 2015, gave much to think about, much to talk about, & much to do, in the matter of carbon grabbing. If you have a window box, a lawn, or a farm, you can help your grandchildren, & the world, by growing living soil on a large or small scale. If you want to find out more, if you did attend the Soils Matter day, if you would like to brainstorm ideas & techniques with others, then please join us at the follow-on workday scheduled for Friday 29th January at Claremorris Town Hall. You can find out more by checking out the Facebook pages for The Good Life Network, Mayo Organic Group, or Soil Matters. This is a full day event, without charge, but booking is essential as places are limited.
