Douglas Hyde Conference Friday 18th July 2014
Roscommon County Council is once again delighted to bring together many leading thinkers,
academics, poets, writers, musicians and speakers to discuss, debate and provide an opportunity for an interesting and challenging day‚s reflection for this year‚s Douglas Hyde Conference.

The theme of this year's conference is: "The Unsaved Harvest: Rural Ireland‚s Cultural Heritage."

Roscommon County Council, in conjunction with the Western Development Commission will host the Douglas Hyde Conference in the BMW Conference Room, The Square Ballaghadreen, Co. Roscommon on Friday 18th July 2014 starting 9am - 5.45pm.
The Douglas Hyde Conference is a focal point of the cultural and literary diary of events in the county and over the years has provided a unique opportunity to contemplate, consider and debate a variety of issues.

In the past, the Douglas Hyde Conference has attracted visitors from all over Ireland and Europe and this year is no exception - we expect many local and overseas visitors to the Conference.

This year's line up has many distinguished speakers including renowned local speakers Margaret Garvey and Sean Hanily who will speak on issues relating to local culture. Other speakers include; W.J. McCormack, Catherine Marshall, Vincent Woods, Brian Leyden, Charles Travis, Jane Clarke, Michael O‚Dea, Noel O‚Grady, Colm Breheny and Pauline White.

The weekend also includes the Lakes and Legends Solas Festival, which will take place in the town of Ballaghaderreen, starting on Friday 18th July at 6.00 pm with Speakers Corner where persons are invited to speak on the subject : "Recovery - how are ya?."

This event is followed by the brilliant Realta, Stilts Fire Circus with many events for young and old.
On Saturday19th July, Ballaghaderreen reverts back 1,000 years with medieval re-enactments throughout the day.
