INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY WITH THE BASQUE COUNTRY WEEK

Picket in solidarity with Basque political prisoners and activists, against repression and torture: 12noon-1.30pm, Saturday 5th April, College Green/ Westmoreland St., by BOI building, as part of International Solidarity with the Basque Country Week.

Demonstration in Bilbao last October in solidarity with political prisoner campaigning organisation Herrira

The photo is not just an illustration of the numbers on a demonstration or the politicisation of a people (only 2.8 million total population); it is also a good illustration of community solidarity, state repression, resistance and the reason for our picket.

The photo shows a demonstration in Bilbao last October, organised in solidarity with the prisoner campaigning group Herrira, which had organised the January before what had been the largest demonstration to that date in the Basque Country. The response of the Spanish Government? They raided Herrira offices, arrested eight of their activists on suspicion of "assisting terrorism" and have threatened to ban the organisation.

Hope to see you there/ súil againn sibh a fheiceáil ansin!
