Thirty Left-wing MPs have written to Ofcom to press it to censor X under the Online Safety Act. The evidence of 'hate' on the platform is threadbare, but it's obvious why they want to clip its wings, says Laurie Wastell.

Why is Indymedia frontpage always soo out of date?

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Saturday August 24, 2002 14:52author by seamus Report this post to the editors

relevant but borrrring

hi, I know you guys work really hard and I realise this is a user run forum, which I try to contribute towards from my home in the UK, but the frontpage is always up for weeks and weeks on end. There are lots of new and more interesting stories which appear on the newswire but nobody ever updates it. I know you're gonna jump on me and say 'why don't you do it'?. I live in teh Uk and cannot but I don't honestly think it takes more than 15 mins to update the frontpage. This will make teh site look fresher and more happening. Perhaps your volunteers can rotate this job on a weekly basis or something? But keep up the great work otherwise!!!

Yes, I see no reports from ECO-TOPIA, THE RACIST ATTACKS OR MARCH.... there's so much going on and little news. How do I get involved?

What exactly is the process for updating the features page? Surely it just takes a few minutes? Is the problem deciding what goes up? Or is there a bottleneck with whoever has the server details?

I sent a suggestion for an updated feature on the Earth Summit to the editorial email list a few days ago and so far there hasn't even been one comment about it on the editorial email list.

See what indymedia.ie could look like today at http://www.wicklowgreens.org/indymedia/ . Why can't the real page be updated? Where's the bottleneck? What's the problem?

I'm not suggesting that my feature has to go up if there's another, better one on offer. But who decides what goes up? And how long does it take to make a decision? Does silence from the editorial list mean there are no objections?

IMHO the IMC Ireland newswire is getting beter and better and its becoming a valuable source of real news that you can't get elsewhere. But the staleness of the features section is a problem, not least because it turns a lot of people off.

Graham asked: is there a bottleneck with whoever has the server details?
Answer: Yes. one person who seems to go online once a month has the ability to put up features.
