Dawson Street decapitation by Dublin bus - man thrown under bus

category national | crime and justice | opinion/analysis author Monday December 10, 2012 15:17author by concerned citizen Report this post to the editors

''A deaf man has apologised for the death of a man who was hit by a bus following an alleged roadside altercation, a court has heard.

Edward Connors, who is profoundly deaf, has been charged with the manslaughter of Eoghan Dudley.

The 28-year-old died last Thursday evening after suffering severe head injuries in the incident in Dublin city centre.

Connors, 29, who has been living in a homeless hostel in Dublin, was brought before the city's District Court where proceedings were translated through a sign language interpreter.

Cahir O'Higgins, defending, requested that his client have an interpreter present when booked in to prison. He told the judge that Connors also relied on a methadone prescription and asked that all medical assistance be given to him in prison. No application was made for bail. The judge granted legal aid and requested the appropriate authorities to ensure whatever medical assistance is needed.''

Here is an excerpt of what happened in the follow up to this poor unfortuanate man, being decapitated by a bus,his head was also crushed.

He died an awful death, and all this man gets is a manslaughter charge..He will probably be out in two years or on parole or a suspended sentence.

My question is:How do we keep our streets clean? We have to be honest and ask ourselves this without feeling guilty or having a bleeding hearts syndrome about it..

This guy was a methadone dependant, and he ended up homeless due to those unfortunate events.

Anytime im up in dublin,if i turn the wrong street end up on westmoreland street etc,i get hassled or see heroin addicts ''goofing off'',basically that means they are out of their heads stumbling around the street on heroin..

There needs to be zero tolerance, look at new york anywhere you go in new york there is no homeless or druggos display threatening behaviour towards the public.

They are cutting garda numbers, and there is NO garda presence on our streets to make us feel safe, and intercept crime as it happens, not turn up an hour or 20 minutes afterwards.

Thats just my two cents on this issue.Something needs to be done.Zero tolerance.

I have been waiting for this to happen. As a retired bus driver I have personal knowledge of this man. insulting & abusive. That's my dealings with E Connors. I have been personally abused, insulted & assaulted by this guy.He has been in trouble since he was a kid. He uses his deafness as a reason for the way his life is. It's just a pity that it will take someone's death to bring all this out. Typically Irish way "Ah the poor lad what a life he has had" A load of sh1t, we could all say that.
In & out of prison each time they come out they are more dangerous.

WHEN WILL THE JUDGES COP ON & PUT THESE THUGS AWAY FOR PROPER TERMS IN PRISON & AS FOR BAIL THAT'S A LAUGH.

The former Taoiseach has received a ministerial pension of €98,000-a-year on top of a TD pension of €48,000-a-year. He has also been entitled to a state car, Garda protection and his own secretary.Which he avails of.

There are people who have access to garda protection like the ilk of bertie aherne, where are the garda presence for the ordinary person on the street.

Two gards on a busy city street, once in a blue moon doesnt suffice.

Garda stations are being cut, right across the country.Yet bertie has his own personal glorified chauffeur a gard, who has been reduced in his capacity as a gard to security.

Where is the justice.?

With garda stations being cut,i dont see how we can ever get to achieve zero tolearance to be frank..I live out in the countryside,i live literally in the middle of nowhere apart from a newsagents and the nearest town is over 30 miles away, the garda stations that are being taken away from us,puts us in a dangerous situation indeed,we could be robbed/burgled/assaulted,and no gards for miles..
I dont see how our government are putting the safety of people as a priority they seem more interested in making us the poor and working classes pay for the mistakes of government/property crash and the bankers..
They haven't even had their government salaries cut,and haven't touched anybody above the 100K payrate.
This is politics in ireland currying favour with each other and feathering their own nests..And not thinking of those who are in vunerable positions who could litereally be a penny away from being homeless themselves..

First of all, you and I don't know the in's and out's here, so no quick judgment please.

There is a clear victim here, and the affects of his death will be felt by other who loved him. However, I don't think more Garda, more prsions and more power is going to help anyone. I know you didn't refer to the latter, but this is the natural development of harsher punishment.

Political, social and economic conditions are put in place to protect the wealthy elite right? That not a big secret anymore - if it ever was. Honestly, with everything so fucked up the way it is, little tweaks won't do it. We need a big change (sorry for the mantra), a revolution maybe?

I can't see any other solution to the firther degredation of the planet and all of it's anhabitants.

Sad all the same...
