RNU Destroy Spy Cameras

category international | anti-capitalism | press release author Thursday April 12, 2012 18:36author by Republican Network for Unity - Republican Network for Unity Report this post to the editors

Republican Network for Unity can confirm that their members disabled two ANPR surveillance systems in and around Belfast last week.

On early Friday morning April 6th, activists took deliberate direct action against these cameras first by dislodging them from their foundations then opening them with Allen keys and burning their inner mechanisms using flammable liquid, rendering them beyond repair.

Cameras were attacked on the Falls Road Belfast and the Lisburn Road near Glenavy.
The public should be made aware that these cameras (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) which have sprouted up on road sides around the north are actively monitoring the movements of all of us, particularly logging the number plates of republican activists and feeding times, dates and locations into a central monitoring system that can be used against them at a later date.
In effect, the ANPR system has replaced the once familiar sight of the British Army watchtowers and squaddies on the street, data gained from these cameras is now fed directly to MI5 Headquarters in Hollywood.
‘ANPR’ has remilitarised the north and as such is fair game for direct action attack by any revolutionary group, such as RNU.
