In the wake of the Supreme Court's landmark trans ruling, is a Gender Recognition Certificate worth anything at all? Not really, says Mark Ellse ? but our muddled politicians won't be in a rush to admit they messed up.

Given the choice between two weak tea bags, Australia elected a weak tea bag, says Rebekah Barnett. Liberal leader Peter Dutton even lost his seat, a reflection of his hopeless deficit in personality and policies.

Solidarity with Irish Ship to Gaza, Dublin 28th June 2011

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Wednesday June 29, 2011 20:54author by Trade Union TVauthor email tradeuniontv at gmail dot com Report this post to the editors

Hundreds took to the streets of Dublin to show solidarity with all taking part in the Irish Ship to Gaza as part of the Freedom Flotilla to end the Israeli embargo on Gaza.

People gathered at the Central Bank in Dublin where Freda Hughes, Joe Higgins, Denis Halliday (who resigned from the UN over sanctions in Iraq and was on the last flotilla) Mick Wallace TD, Richard Boyd Barrett TD and Chair of the IAWM spoke. There was a good presence from Trade Unionists with Jimmy Kelly speaking outside the Israeli Embassy and Sinn Féin were represented with Padraig McLaoughlin and Aengus Ó'Snodaigh.

The demonstration stopped en route at the Gaiety Theatre which held the opening night of Riverdance, the international Irish dance combo act. There protestors held their own cultural event of Middle eastern music and dance. Riverdance is planning on touring in Israel later this year in spite of the Palestinian backed cultural boycott (http://www.ipsc.ie/press-releases/"don't-dance-for-israeli-apartheid... t-riverdances-opening-night-in-dublin).

There was a live feed from the Irish ship with words from Mags O'Brien, a SIPTU official who is taking part. There were also words from Trevor Horgan the Irish Rugby player and the Irish Anti-War Movements's very own Jim Roche who also received a rapturous response from the assembled crowds.
