We will be screening part of the documentary: The Power of Community. This is a documentary about how Cuba, an isolated island nation, rebuilt its quality of life following the collapse of cheap oil, supplied by the former Soviet Union. Looks as if the South Park crew could have some problems angry islamic fundamentalists. Mocking buddha and christ is one thing but mocking the "prophet" of islam is a tad more dangerous.

Islamists have warned the creators of TV show South Park they could face violent retribution for depicting the Prophet Muhammad in a bear suit. A posting on the website of the US-based group, Revolution Muslim, told Matt Stone and Trey Parker they would "probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh". The Dutch film-maker was shot and stabbed to death in 2004 by an Islamist angered by his film about Muslim women. read full story / add a comment

Among other things, Richar Patterson says that Black liberation is more advanced than the liberation of Visually impaired [hear here]; that he was never ashamed of being black, but was ashamed of his visual impaierment. [interaction with the 'normal' people' is a strange nexus]

Hollie Greig is one of the most horendous cases you will ever hear, it will shock you to the core. It is deeply distressing to learn of her story. Kevin Flanagan and John Deegan are holding a 48 hour fast out side of the GPO in O'COnnell St. Dublin, to highlight her case to the public. We have picked 4 places over the hill and will be processing to each part with people joined by candle bearers trailing garlands of coloured ribbon and flowers. It's being reported by the he Garda Ombudsman that a man has been found dead in a garda cell in Dublin.

The man was arrested for a public order offence on Tuesday evening and held at Tallaght Garda Station where he was found dead at 9.30 last night.

Greyhound protection campaigners are holding demonstrations outside various venues on Dara O'Briain's UK tour after a racing dog, part "owned" by the Irish comedian, was fatally injured during a race at Dublin's Harolds Cross Stadium. The BBC is also being targetted, as the race was featured in an episode of its Three Men in a Boat programme, which amounted to a promotion of the cruel so-called "sport" of greyhound racing and where no mention of the death of the dog was made. read full story / add a comment

One of the world’s greatest composers, Russian born Sofia Gubaidulina will bring her world renowned contemporary music to the Drogheda Arts Festival on the evening of the 1st May.

Gubaidulina (pronounced ‘goo-bye-DOO-lee-nah) who is visiting Ireland for the first time, will attend a composer portrait concert at St Peter’s Church, Drogheda at 8pm on 1 May 2010 in which highly acclaimed performers including Ivan Monighetti, the Dublin Guitar Quartet, Malachy Robinson, the Heath Quartet, The Oriel Trio and Dermot Dunne will perform a range of her works.

The concert is the latest of several high profile art music events organised by the Louth Contemporary Music Society, to bring world renowned composers to Ireland, previously having successfully featured, Arvo Pärt, Philip Glass, Terry Riley and Valentyn Silvestov.

With regard to Dun Laoghaire Co. Dublin has anyone noticed the ongoing strike at Connolly's shoes? There is a protest rally being held this Saturday in support of the workers who are currentlyon strike. It starts at 2pm outside the shop on George's Street and is well worth supporting. Irish neutrality and sovereignty are being violated by the active recruitment of young Irishmen into the British Army in Moyross, according to local Sinn Féin Councillor Maurice Quinlivan. He said it was disgraceful that this was being facilitated by a jobs club totally funded by the Irish taxpayer.
