Four masts, two quarries, an incinerator, a CCTV system, a gas power plant and an airstrip

Local residents are opposed to the erection by H3G of a new 15-metre high mast in Crossreagh, near Mullagh, Co. Cavan which would be within a few hundred yards of the local school, calling for the H3G antennae to be placed on the three or four other masts already erected in the area. (Anglo-Celt 8/10/09, p. 9).

Local people are strongly opposed to the proposed expansion of a quarry at Aylevarroo, Kilrush, Co. Clare, to include blasting and crushing, with three objections submitted to the County Council and more expected. (Clare People 6/10/09, p.4).

Locals are concerned that operators of a quarry at Boolyduff, Inagh, Co. Clare are being tipped off by a County Council employee in advance of inspections by the council’s enforcement team. According to a local landowner “The pattern which is developing is very unusual. The enforcement officer was out here last Wednesday at 4pm. The quarrying stopped suddenly at 3pm and began again at 5pm. This has happened on a number of occasions”. (Clare People 6/10/09, p.4).

North East Against incineration has taken exception to claims in the EIS for College Proteins’ incinerator that the population of Nobber, Co. Meath, has an appreciably lower standard of educational attainment than the rest of Meath, with spokesperson Johnny Keogan describing the comments as hilarious coming from a company that applied for planning permission for an incinerator on land it didn’t own. (Meath Chronicle 10/10/09, pp.1,3).

Tetra is to meet with objectors to its proposed mast in Annascaul, Co. Kerry next week in Tralee to review possible alternative sites. Objectors are maintaining their vigil in front of the mast site. (Kerryman (sic) 7/10/09, p. 24).

Despite objections from nearly 300 locals Wexford County Council has granted the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority permission to install a CCTV system in Kilmore Quay. (Wexford People 7/10/09, p. 9).

Plans by H3G for a broadband mast near Coolbanagher Church in Co. Laois, having been objected to locally and rejected by Laois County Council, have now been rejected by An Bord Pleanala. (Leinster Leader 7/10/09, p. 11).

The local Green Party in Athenry, Co. Galway has joined the protest by hundreds of locals against a proposed gas power plant at Cashla, Athenry. (Connacht Tribune 9/10/09, p. 4).

An Bord Pleanala has rejected an appeal by An Taisce against ancillary developments for an airstrip near Cleggan, Co. Galway. (Connacht Tribune 9/10/09, p. 18).

At an angry public meeting in Leghowney Community Hall last Tuesday, local residents strongly criticised the application by 3 for a mast on Finabane Hill, Leghowney, Co. Donegal and called on the company to withdraw its application. (Donegal Democrat 8/10/09, p. 2a)
