Rally demands release of Maura Harrington at GPO and outside Mountjoy

category dublin | environment | news report author Sunday March 15, 2009 11:14author by Andrew - WSM (personal capacity)author email wsm_ireland at yahoo dot com Report this post to the editors

Around 50 people gathered at the GPO in Dublin yesterday to demand the release of Shell to Sea campaigner Maura Harrington. After a short period at the GPO we went up to Mountjoy prison where Maura has been held since Wednesday evening.

As well as Dublin Shell to Sea activists the picket was joined by a number of Tara activists. It was notable that a very high percentage of passing car and pedestrians expressed support for the demand that Maura be released. Every taxi that passed beeped in solidarity.

The vendictive decision to jail Maura comes at a very significant time when mass opposition to growing to the attacks on Irish workers coming out of the crisis in capitalism. At the same time as the government is proclaiming that there is no choice but to slash our wages, conditions and access to services they continue to give away for free hundreds of billions of euro worth of hydrocarbon deposits at Corrib and elsewhere off the west coast, see http://www.wsm.ie/story/2187 for details.

Maura should be freed now, as she should not be there in the first instance.

The empty space could make space for Judge Devins, hard times indeed and harder to come.

Arrested for defending our natural resources worth over 500,000,000,000 euro..... Then 'they' say MAURA needs psychiatric evaluation? Absolute madness

I refuse to be drawn in by your low standards, and your devious misinterpretation of this disgracefull event the jailing of Maura Harrington.

There are those of us thankfully that do, and are fully aware of the difference, between right and wrong.

There are those of us thankfully that know when an enormous injustice has been carried out on behalf of the State, for the State and that of its Multinational buddy Shell/Topaz.

Perhaps its the comment in relation to Judge Devins that appears to have angered you.

The truth is always very painful, and anger makes a person very unhappy.

I dont normally as a rule feed the trolls but I felt that I just had to give you this little bite.

God Bless you Maura.

Slan.
