REBEL PEDAL!
Cork’s Giant Bicycle Parade & Picnic Party
Saturday 20th September 2008

Expect to see a splash of colour on the streets of Cork on Saturday 20th September when cycling enthusiasts of all ages descend on Cork City for Cork Environmental Forum's Rebel Pedal Parade!

Members of the public are invited to choose pedal power on the day and join a leisurely circuit of the city starting in Alfred St. at 11.30am. Registration can be completed online or on the morning, and the first 500 riders to register will receive a free, stylish gift on their arrival.

The Rebel Pedal! Parade will conclude at the Atlantic Pond where there will be a lively and entertaining picnic party from 1.00pm to 5.00pm. You can bring your picnic or buy food on site (Doubledecker Bus).

The picnic party will feature juggling, clowns (Cork Circus Company & Matteo Pinagli), head and neck massages (Lee Field Physiotherapy Clinic), music (DJ Dr. Fiasco), dance performance (Chloé de Buyl-Pisco & No Frontiers Dance Company), face painting for children and cycling workshops: “Bike Doctors” (Cork Cycling Campaign), “Pimp My Bike” (Cork Community Bikes & Rob Ireson) and “Cycling Stickers” (Cork Greenmap & Naomi Fein).

Cork Cycling Campaign will be organizing community feeder rides from various locations around the city to the starting point of the parade.

Cork Community Bikes has created a pedal-powered street theatre piece which will be used as the mascot of the parade. Other “funky-freaky” bicycles have been specially designed for the event.

The Rebel Pedal! Parade and Picnic Party are organised by Cork Environmental Forum with the assistance of Cork City Council and various local partners, including UCC, Cork Cycling Campaign, Cork Community Bikes, An Óige, HSE and Cork Greenmap.

The Rebel Pedal! marks the highlight of European Mobility Week 2008 which features a series of sustainable transport themed events presented by Cork City Council and partners to celebrate healthy, green transport and people-friendly streets.
