Keir Starmer has claimed that Brexit created the small boats crisis and the migrant boats should be called 'Farage boats'. This is nonsense, says David Barrett, and even Oxford University's Migration Observatory agrees.

Why is 'pandemic preparedness' a major theme of the US Government's new 'America First' Global Health Strategy, asks Dr David Bell. There are some sound public health principles in there, but the 'pandemic' con lives on.

15 yoyos is a bit much. And, as the first comment points out, we'll probably see busloads of members from affiliates like the SWP who didn't donate a single cent to CAEUC during the campaign apart from the basic affiliation fee. The affiliation system is the cheapest way to get in, I'd reckon - just form an 'organistion' with 10 others, make no further contribution, and ye'll all get into the conference for diddly squat.
Dear credit cruncher, dear amused
The €15 for waged and €5 for unwaged amounts are for the CAEUC that has very little, if any, money at the moment to be able to pay for the room and the sandwiches & tea/coffee.
The decision of the organising group was that everybody who wants to be there and discuss/debate tries to pay that amount - there is no decision that affiliate organisation members, of whatever direction, get in without paying.
If, on the other hand, somebody really wants to participate and cannot pay the €5, if they are unwaged, then we can discuss that as well.
So rather than sniping at yoyos, please make yourselves available - the CAEUC needs new people, needs activists.
See you all on Sunday - registration is at 11.00
Michael,
I'm a member of an affiliated organisation. Do I have to pay 15 euros to get in??? You can't be serious.
Dear friend,
There is no need to either complicate matters or be confused. The Teachers Club is charging the CAEUC €4 per head for tea/coffee and sandwiches and a significant amount for the rent of the room. Your membership of an affiliated organisation is neither here nor there in this respect....if you're unwaged and you pay €5 it would just about cover the cost....if you, on the other hand, you are waged or have an independent income, you are asked to contribute about €10 over and above costs to the campaign. This, unless I am totally mistaken, is less than the price of a ticket to see a movie or about the price of two pints........
Unless my original message did not get through, the CAEUC has very little money at the moment. So, yes, we're asking activists, who care, to make a small contribution.
I hope the above satisfies you and clears your 'confusion'.
I hear where you're coming from but I guarantee you that you'll be lucky to get more than a handful of punters at those prices. I hope you booked a small room.
Dear Michael
Maybe the Teachers Club is not the right place for this kind of event… activism is not about tea and sandwiches. Monetary contribution should be free!
Why not start this meeting with a showing of the video clip at the address provided below? -- and get things on the right track ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADbTCSuNSms
Not a bad idea Eddie - the Village has 8 whole pages with pics from the video.
As Treasurer of CAECU, let me assure you that CAECU not only has no money, it is in debt, not by a great deal, but in debt all the same.
The amount being chared is minimal and is there to cover the cost of hiring the rom and providing some food. €15 is not a great deal of money.
Sorry I wont be around for either your meeting or the ' visit '.
Loved the video Eddie.
This one is the real thing, unfortunatley in French,

The weekend meeting seems like a good idea. Would people realise that the campaign needs to pay for the place and cop themselves on. The campaign fought brilliantly on a frayed shoestring..
Dont spend from now until Sunday and time on Sunday arguing about the cost of sandwiches. Come with your ideas and energy. By the way if you are there for 5 hours you will need Tadhg's food. Let that be the end of it. If you can pay then do and quit the messin.
Get the custard pies out ... Sarkosy is comming !... SSSSHHHhhhh ...
Thanks Crazy Cat
No words necessary
Is that Sid James -
Carry On, Sarky !
What's up with you lot ? 'Mane' as ever !
Although a lowly photographer, and allowed in free as FreelancePress, I will still insist on paying the 15 Euro.
