Picket in support of the Czech Communist Youth!

category dublin | anti-capitalism | event notice author Sunday March 16, 2008 14:32author by Nikita - CYM Report this post to the editors

This Wednesday the 19th of March, the CYM will be holding a picket at the Dept Of Foreign Affairs on Stephens Green at 6pm to protest against the banning of our fraternal comrades, The Czech Communist Youth (KSM.) The CYM demands that the Irish government condemn this abuse of democracy in the Czech Republic and calls for an end to the suppression of the KSM.

As part of an international day of action in support of the KSM, all over the world, member organisations of the World Federation Of Democratic Youth will be holding actions in solidarity with them. All comrades are welcome to attend!

Below is a short FAQ on the KSM situation from our leaflet:

Who are the KSM?

The KSM, Komunisticky svas mladeze, are the young communist movement of Czech Republic. They are a popular youth movement with members and branches across the country. They are also importantly the youth movement of the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia, one of the largest parties in Czech. The KSM campaigns for peace, democracy and socialism.

Why are they being banned?

They are being banned as a state-led assault upon the Communist Party. The state, not being able to ban the Party as it is elected to parliament, has chosen to undermine its support and future existence by banning their youth movement. This is also part of a broader attempt by the European Union and its subject states to discredit communist ideology and clamp down on workers movements.

How are they being banned?

The Czech government recently brought in legislation making it unconstitutional to campaign for the abolition of private property as the dominant form of property ownership. This in essence makes it illegal to campaign for alternatives to capitalism.

Why do we support them?

As young socialists, the Connolly Youth Movement fights for democracy and socialism across the globe. KSM being our fraternal organization in the Czech Republic has our full support and solidarity.

Come along on Wednesday and show some solidarity with our international comrades!

LMFAO ... As if communism in Eastern Europe didn't manage both of these things all by itself over the last sixty/ninety years!

This organization is a repulsive throwback to the not so distant time when these people were the repressive orthodoxy in Eastern Europe. However, it is wrong to ban it. Free speech, even for these repulsive throwbacks, is the rock upon which democracy rests. Anyway, what's the fuss? The parent organization of this miniscule rabble of adolescent malcontents hardly poses an extential threat to anyone.

Just to you let you know, the communist party of the czech republic isn't "miniscule" as the poster above claims. The party usually poles around 15% in parlimentary elections, has 6 MEP's and has 107,813 members. You should really educate yourself with some facts before you start talking about issues that you know nothing about..

Victory to the KSM! Defend the right to organise!

Czech Communist Party is one of the largest communist party in Czech Republic. If it was really so "miniscule" , Czech government shouldnt have bothered to ban the youth organization. Those commenting without any prior knowledge should check the reliable sources before vomitting the things propagandized by media.

With Solidarity to Czech youth movement.
