Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4why doesn't the energy going into lobbying the government be redirected into actually getting Antoinette a place to stay? I hear there's a lot of abandoned buildings in Dun Laoghaire. It seems that staying camped outside in the cold instead of attempting to squat a building (undoubtedly with large public support) is subordinating her human needs to make a political point.
If someone on the housing list squats a building and is then caught they are banned from the housing list. In Antoinette's case if she is caught squatting herself and her young family would not be housed at all by the local authority.
The original author omitted some basic background details in his report. Readers who don't know who Antoinette is can find out more info at the link below. It describes how a homeless mother has taken to sleeping on the street outside Dun Laoghaire council office after the Council failed to offer her accommodation suitable for a mother of three children.
There are two sides to every dispute. An unemployed, unmarried mother of 3 who doesnt pay taxes or contribute to our social expenses is entitled like any refugee to the best of care from our local government.
It would be nice, for a change, if we could get the council's side of the story, instead of the usual usless sabre rattling from mr Boyd barrett. I am sorry to hear she has taken ill but thank God Antoinette is entitled to free medical aid.
Antoinette's inclusion of her children in this painful dispute could be voilating their rights.
Would this all have been easier if Antoinette had requested help with her rent before she was evicted.
God bless this little country !
