in Something Maybe Beautiful written by Naomi Klein, the italian social centre network (150 + @ 2001) was described in the Frenchnewspaper Le Monde as "the Italian cultural jewel."......
http://www.nologo.org/newsite/detail.php?ID=34

"Social centres are abandoned buildings—warehouses, factories, military forts, schools—that have been occupied by squatters and transformed into cultural and political hubs, explicitly free from both the market, and from state control. By some estimates there are 150 social centres in Italy."

this and further background can be found at critical discussion at monks garden, venice (commentry on and about the art world and in particular artist Sarah Pierces "monks garden" project that is part of the Venice Bienelle, the "art olympics" )

We hope you can make the journey up and join us, we should be able to sort you out with accomodation with our friends here in Dublin. Hopefully the Friday night will spark the wish to make the idea of a social centre a reality.
