do these crews have websites
do they do other and more interesting murals than just tags?

sure ye are aware of muralismo project down in mayfield cork that has ties with nicaragua project from estelles
im hoping to get down to them and see stuff over summer, tie it in with manala gardens down there, they have a mayfield comunity garden too.

anyway, im interested in trying to get muralismo projects on here in dublin, have a few spaces ready for murals, not just tags
would these UEK and ICN crews be on for doing a mural workshop, are they good at doing thesee types ?
if so perhaps they could contact me and we can do a little workshop, we have met up with city communitys and after schools groups from city and they have summer festivals, it would be good to connect up these different communities.; physical dublin communities and community of ideas; grafiti crews, garden crews, clowns........

A good friend of mine very recently told me that the youngsters of St. Micheals Estate Flats in Inchicore are doing Graffiti workshops in the community centre. Apparently the walls around the centre look very colourful! I have not seen it myself. Dunk, it maybe worth while checking them out.

And while we’re at it, does anyone know who or what ‘GRIFF’ or ‘CIST’ are? I see a lot of there sprays around the city too.

author by infestpublication date Wed Jun 08, 2005 17:49author address author phone Report this post to the editors

UEK and ICN are tagging crews. UEK seems to be made up of goth kids of the central bank vintage. There are a few ICN tags around town with the following taggers beside them as signatures: drop, rise and grift, maybe shot too. So ICN is made up of those who were previously just doing their own tags and now work collectively as ICN. Well,at least thats how I read it.

on the mayfield muralismo front, things are going great down there, the mural that they made last year was hanging in bodegas bar and they are currently trying to get it housed in the city bus station.

they are having a massive event this summer with muralismo people coming from colombia and nicaraqua, that will be from july 4th till 24th, their website is down but should be back online soon

just cus some kid gets some spray paint and works on a wall does that become news somehow?

the "think stupid" and some of the other designs are worthy of publishing but the rest isnt news and if its coded stuff that only a few people understand I see that as anti communication and more of a desire to feel superior and make others feel like beginners

Ive had stuff Ive written taken off the newswire and the excuse given was that it wasnt news - so how are ALL these photos allowed up

Its news then that "I had a thought 5 minutes ago and want to share it with the world"

Could we add that to the editorial directives or is it that this photographer is pally with some people in indymedia who turn a blind eye and dont touch whats posted up or analyse it to see if it is really news or not

Perhaps we could start an art section and put the more abstract stuff in there for readers who reach factual overload and want some visuals

author by James Rpublication date Thu Jun 09, 2005 15:41author address author phone Report this post to the editors

The regular noise hacker postings are one of the most interesting things to develop on Indymedia, they are an archive of the city's walls and wheter or not you agree with street art is irrelevant given the effort the guy is putting into archiving graffitti aorund the city.

There is such a thing as photo journalism after all? Media doesnt just mean text.

In England and Wales Councils are getting even more powers to attack Graffitti Artists. But not just that: they are also getting stronger powers to outlaw leafleting and postering. Full story at link.

Fixed penalties tackle graffiti

Graffiti artists run the risk of an £80 fixed-penalty
New council powers to crack down on environmental crimes and anti-social behaviour such as graffiti, fly-tipping and fly-posting have come into force. Measures under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 enable local authorities in England and Wales to issue £80 on-the-spot fines.

Council enforcement officers already have the ability to issue £50 fixed penalties to people who drop litter or whose dogs foul the pavement. The new £80 fines will replace those powers and also cover graffiti, fly-tipping, fly-posting, leaflet distribution and waste registration breaches.

Back in prehistory: 1988 I noticed Acrid and RCS tags springing up all along the DART route. It then spread through the city centre and into other burbs. Acrid had art and could run some good pieces. RCS never got past his/their signature.

When I moved to London in 1992 I saw RCS tags along the Clapham Junction train route and in the City of London and wondered, can one team be this devoted to just writing their name?

Moved back to Dublin a couple of months ago from 10 years in Los Angeles and can't avoid seeing ICN and RCS tags in large numbers. (incidentally in L.A. tagging is considered completely gay and art/stencil graff is flourishing).

ICN has done a good piece at Blackrock baths. Don't know why he/they wastes his/their time with tagging.
