Saturday April 23

Community Enterprise and Recycling
Venue: Upstairs at Cultivate
Time: Saturday 23rd April 13.00-15.00
Admission - Free
Event Type: Workshop
Facilitating community based sustainable waste management and exploring local job creation and enterprise through recycling is a major challenge in moving us towards healthy communities. If you thought recycling is an environmental issue, think again. Recycling has moved from being a pursuit of the environmentally aware to a potential multimillion-euro economic activity. This interactive session will feature four short presentations by Sheena McCambley from the ballymun Rediscovery Centre, Bernie Walsh from Sunflower Recycling, Mary O'Reilly from MCOS and a representative from the UK Community Recycling Network. These will be followed with discussion on how communities can tap into the potential of creating wealth and jobs from waste.

Community Energy Supply: Doing without the Grid
Venue: At Enfo -17 St. Andrew Street, Tel: 888 2001
Time: Saturday 23rd April 14.00-16.00
Admission - Free
Event Type: Workshop
Last year, "To Catch the Wind" a Western Development Commission report on the prospects for community investment in wind energy in Ireland said that, until government policies changed, no community should waste its time and money trying to erect wind turbines to supply power to the grid. Those policies have not changed. So how realistic is it for communities to set up co-operatives to develop local energy sources to supply heat, light and cooling throughout their areas?
