"the illegal organising of a dance in a public place"

"Gardai call halt to beach raves"

not harming anyone

Gardai call halt to beach raves
Richard Oakley and Scott Millar
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/newspaper/0,,176-1151254,00.html

GARDAI have launched a clampdown on illegal raves following a series
of
outdoor parties along the east coast of the country.

An investigation has been launched after one gathering in Killiney in
Dublin two weeks ago attracted a crowd of more than 500 people and a
second one planned for Dalkey island last weekend was foiled at the
last minute by gardai.

The Killiney party, which featured live DJs, was held on a secluded
cove known as White Rock, about 10 miles south of Dublin. Up to 30
gardai, with helicopter backup, took more than three hours to disperse
the crowd.

The police were notified after locals on the exclusive Vico Road
complained about noise. When gardai arrived on the scene, they found a
rave in full swing with generators providing power for music
equipment.
Some of those who attended described the police reaction as
heavy-handed.

The Dalkey event was stopped last week after gardai intercepted groups
of people trying to make their way to a dock from which boats could be
taken to the island, about a quarter of a mile offshore.

It is understood that similar parties also have taken place on
Donabate
strand in Dublin and possibly Bettystown beach in Co Meath.

The parties are highly organised, with buses running to the venues
from
the city centre, and their location and time spread among dance fans
through internet chatrooms and by text message. The venues for the
raves, which are generally peaceful events, are always kept secret
until shortly before they begin.

Such organised beach parties first emerged in Dublin about two years
ago and were simply monitored by gardai. However, following a number
of
parties in the Devil's Glen Wood, Roundwood, and Brittas Bay, all in
Co
Wicklow, gardai started to clamp down. At one party, attended by over
1,000 people, four people were arrested. Three were charged with
criminal damage and one with organising illegal activity.

One garda source in Dublin said the gardai were now planning to
interview the alleged organisers of the Killiney party and possibly
prosecute them.

"These parties break a number of laws. They involve illegal outdoor
drinking, the illegal organising of a dance in a public place, and
they
are in breach of the public order act. They are dangerous for those
attending, noisy and anti-social."

He said that in most cases those attending did not cause
trouble. "They
are generally decent people. Our main concern is for their safety. At
the party in Killiney, they were going up and down these dangerous
steps, and they were hanging around on cliffs. If something happened,
we would be blamed for not stopping it," he said.

One person who attended the Killiney party complained that the gardai
were "over the top". Another person who regularly attends these beach
parties said they generally passed off without any difficulties.

Obviously there is alot of organisation put into these outdoor parties and raves. Why not focus this obvious skill at trying to organise either an indoor place to hold them or to organise it properly and get all the official things that need to be done, done. It would solve alot of trouble.

I am not a big fan of Raves, but hell each their own. Basically there has to be some way for these organisers to do it without breaking the law, no matter how old and stupid that law may be. I don't agree with the laws, but none-the-less it is the law and should be obeyed. Either way, Good luck in organising further events, hopefully the next ones can be organised properly and maybe 'legally' and thus preventing the Garda from busting it up.

So these raves have been run for two years or so, and they haven't figured out the laws. So what then are these raves i've been going to for years where the organisers have a pretty good grasp of the laws and do all they can to skirt around them. From the description this could sound like a bunch of johnny come latelies who havent figured out how to organise or want to make a statement, and so are attracting a bit too much garda attention to the detriment of everyone else. You have to admit that the locations are in rather too well known places, the sort of places where you would expect to get complaints. There are ways around the laws, stop complaining and figure them out.

All over Europe, concerted attempts will be made this Summer to disrupt the mass marketing of certain psychotropic amphetamined based substances.
you might like to think of them as "bad drugs".

This has more to do with issues of European Health policy, security and transnational crime prevention, than it has to do with curtailing your civil liberties to dance till dawn, get sweated up and flirty and thus find the partner of your dreams.

What can you do to play your part?
*education.
*testing
*responsible use.

You might like to promote alternative techniques, like holding your breath for more than 3 minutes, hanging around upside down, or be really traditional and eat some mushrooms. Some times there are good years for ravers and sometimes there are bad.
- This _is_ a bad year.

to be fair the two parties that were focused on in this article were not the greatest idea. to organize a party in the close vacinity of alot of houses is not only a bit dim but also quite inconsiderate of the locals.

for these parties to continue as they have done people who are now starting to "organise" them have to wise up. one of the reason's that these parties have more or less gone undisturbed over the past few years is that the organizers have usually chosen locations far enough away from where lots of people are sleeping tight in their beds so as not to disturb them and because there is a limited police force down in the country, plus it also adds something to the night / weekend when there is a bit of travelling to do.

on another note, it is hugely important that the partygoers clean up after themselves. it is mainly the responsibility of the party organizers to have a clean up crew or whatever arranged but it also comes down to the individual themselves because in all
honestly who wants to see our beautifull countryside ruined!!

All though it is not deemed normal for peolpe to go out and gather together and have an oudoor free party, it is aour right as humans on this earth to be able to go to any common land and have what I would call a gathering/RAVE.
We have done this since pagan times. The Earth does not belong to anyone, and should be cellebrated within an enviroment of dance and music. Blasted criminal justice bill. Whats so bad about it as long as the site is respected by all and no mess is left. Which in genrall is the case, even after the huge rave in 91 at Castle Morton holding a gathering of between 10,000 to 20,000 people.

I have a good location for a rave, located in co. longford, we can provide a secure open venue location, proximity to residential is approximately 2 miles and acustices are fantastic due to the topography of the location. We can provide over night tent locations and caravan location for a 3 day rave event. Cleaning will be provided at the end of the event by the organiser, please let me know who is interested, this location is advailable for winter raves and I have large tents with heating advailable.
