![]() World People’s Resistance Movement Statement: Take it higher! Build the struggle again World People’s Resistance Movement Statement: Take it higher! Build the struggle against this unjust war! http://www.wprm.org Take it higher! Build the struggle against this unjust war! Despite their overconfident posturing, the imperialists and the reactionary regimes around the world are listening to and watching very closely what the people opposing this unjust war are doing – how they resist, who they influence, how public opinion is changing. As if to prove this, their police are arresting demonstrators and violently trying to stop them, legislators are preparing new reactionary laws like in the US itself or using emergency rule, like in the Arab world, their politicians are scrambling to explain the murderous adventure they try to paint as some kind of freedom crusade and their media are systematically distorting and under-reporting the massive outpouring of resistance to it. In short all the appendages of the state step out to play their part in this totally unjust war of aggression against Iraq, that neither diplomatic bribery and bargaining nor massive public opinion campaigns have managed to legitimise in the eyes of the world’s people. The truth is, the US and UK rulers are badly isolated. They are isolated after their disaster in the UN Security Council negotiations and realignment against them by other Western powers and members. But mainly they have become isolated by the powerful eruption of the people’s struggle throughout the globe, spanning every continent and scores of countries. Everywhere Bush is likened to Hitler in the international language of placards and chants, cartoons and effigies, while US and Israeli flags burn and slogans and leaflets in a myriad of languages expose and denounce US crimes from Afghanistan to the Philippines to the Middle East. Cries of support to the Iraqi people and the Palestinian people, daily facing the terror of the US’ butcher partners, Israel, are heard on streets from San Francisco to Paris to Jakarta and throughout the Arab world. These predators have given birth to a new generation of youth and others, fresh to political activity, that despises their brutal war machine and the arrogance of the imperialist rulers who have unleashed it on Iraq… they have revived the anger and scorn of many generations already familiar with their past crimes or who live under the boot of their vicious system every day. How many places on the planet could Bush, Rumsfeld, Blair and Co. walk unprotected today? This activity has not stopped the US-UK invasion and everywhere activists are debating whether and how it can be stopped. First of all the US rulers have an agenda to reshape this region under their own domination, to control its resources and tighten up regimes that will help them do this: this is not a short-range scheme, but a long-term project of invasion and occupation that does not hide its openly colonialist aims. The Iraqi people are only the current victims of this grand plan. The people’s struggle too must be waged with a perspective that includes both urgency and long-term aims: how will it build a movement in strength and numbers not only to expose and resist the imperialists’ every move in this deadly game of conquest by war, but to stop and ultimately defeat it. We must never underestimate the power of the people’s resistance that throws a wrench into the rulers’ death machine, both against those running the Pentagon itself or their collaborators in the network of bourgeois and semi-feudal dictatorships in other countries. We must oppose and actively resist the complicity of the governments that (either willingly or by bullying and/or bribery) facilitate the US’ aims, whether by giving access to military bases, sending troops, granting overflight rights, closing borders to refugees, expelling unwanted diplomats or others, or extraditing people branded as enemies and stepping up repression against the people’s basic democratic right to oppose them. We must be bold, creative and courageous, finding ways to unite and appropriate ways to take the struggle higher, to build it stronger and more tenaciously, to unveil and resist every aspect of this colossal crime against humanity in the making. We must rip apart their absurd tissue of lies that try to embellish or justify their slaughter and domination and aim to confuse the hesitant. We must take history into our hands and stop these criminals. Iraqi people, you are not alone! People of the world, unite to defeat the US-UK invasion and occupation of Iraq! Take the struggle higher! Provisional Organising Committee local contact:
[The WPRM is a growing movement open to all who genuinely oppose imperialism and support the just struggles of the people, whether in Palestine, or the Maoist-led People’s War raging in Nepal. We are currently organised mainly in Europe and South Asia and call on others to join ranks with and help build the WPRM.] |
