yeah, the group is called the Arab European League. Basically they set up patrols that videoed the police on the beat in Muslim areas of the city. The police are accused of racist profiling, racist stop n search activities and good old racist violence. So the basic arguement from the govt etc is that somehow by videotaping the police on the beat, they are creating 'no-go' areas. Interesting logic, given that if the piggies were doing their job 'properly' they would have nothing to fear from being videoed. But there ye go, thats what happens when you elect a fascist as your mayor. Ok i'm not sure whether he is technically a 'fascist' but he's pretty damn right-wing. After the rioting that followed the murder, the leader of the AEL was arrested and charged with inciting a riot i think, but has since been released. Bizarrley, most of my information on this comes from Euronews of all places, who did not seem to mind (unconciously I assume) pointing out the contradictions of such logic. Anyway, any one have any other info on the latest, I would appreciate it, cos I dont have time to trawl the net looking for an unbiased account. cheers.
