Red Flag Vigil for Hugo Chavez, Dublin, Friday, 8th March

category international | anti-capitalism | event notice author Thursday March 07, 2013 14:17author by Chavista Report this post to the editors

In commemoration of the life and passing of Hugo Chavez, there will be a vigil held outside the GPO on O'Connell Street in Dublin between 5.00pm to 6.30pm on Friday 8th March 2013.

The vigil will coincide with the state funeral in Venezuela and will offer the people of Dublin to express their support for the progressive policies of Chavez and to show solidarity with the people of Venezuela at this difficult time.

Fittingly, 8th March is also International Woman's Day as we remember the advances that the Chavez and the Bolivarian Revolution made not just for the Venezuelan poor, but particularly for Working Class women. Housewives were provided a living wage, infant and maternal mortality rates were slashed, and huge advances were made in encouraging women into participating in politics. The legacy of Chavez provides an example to people everywhere of how the wealth of a nation can be diverted from the hands of a few to those who most need it.

All groups and individuals are welcome to attend the vigil. All party banners and flags are welcome. We would however encourage people to bring red flags or wear red clothing to the event if possible and hope that the people of Dublin can send out a visually stunning message to the people of Venezuela and Socialists across the world that we are part of one struggle.

Please tell everybody about this event, and do your best to attend. Hugo gave so much to so many people.
