SEA-SHANTIES FROM A LEFT-WING ACTIVIST AND NORMANDY LANDING VETERAN

JIM RADFORD WILL BE AT THE CLÉ CLUB THIS WEDNESDAY 19th SEPT. Singer of traditional sea-shanties and folk songs, composer of songs, political activist for decades, ex-seaman and NORMANDY D-DAY VETERAN ....

Although he is proud of his participation as a boy in the Normandy Landings, where he was crew on one of the tugs taking equipment in under enemy fire, Jim Radford has been an anti-war, anti-imperialist activist for many decades, from the Committee of One Hundred, through to the Vietnam, Irish, Iraq, Afghanistan wars. He also helped families occupy empty properties and took part in a great number of other social and political struggles.

Among his compositions is one about that day, others are Song for Stephen Lawrence and the Ryanair Song. He has won prizes for composition at folk festivals and has been featured as a guest at many, especially for his singing of sea-shanties.
