Protect Dublin Bay – No Oil Rigs on Our Coast

category dublin | environment | event notice author Wednesday April 25, 2012 22:33author by T Report this post to the editors

Protect Dublin Bay – No Oil Rigs on Our Coast. Protest this Sun 12 midday – Meet at Seafront Entrance to People’s Park Dun Laoghaire.

Tony O Reilly’s Providence Resources wants to drill for oil in Dublin Bay just 6km off the coast of Dalkey Island. Providence have applied for a foreshore licence to the Minister for the Environment, Phil Hogan, who will decide on this in the coming weeks or months.

If Providence gat a licence it will mean oil rigs in our bay for the next five or six years and if they do find oil or gas it will mean the full industrialisation of our bay for the coming decades.

Save Our Seafront is very concerned about this because:

1. The planned rig is to close to shore

2. Under the currencing licencing arrangements the Irish state does not stand to benefit one jot from any oil/gas find.

3. If there were an oil spill or a gas leak it would cause untold damage to our bay and could force the evacuationo of people along the coast.

4. Dublin Bay is home to many endangered species and there should be no oil exploration in special conservation areas.

We need to keep our coast rig free. Please join our protest on Sunday and please share this.

Venue:
Meet at Seafront Entrance to People’s Park Dun Laoghaire.

When:
Sun 12 midday 29th April 2012
