Scenes you won't see on the Irish TV news. Police -many with no visible ID- pepper sprayed and attacked protesters. Nearly 100 arrests were made. Activists (many marching against the Afghan war) claimed that the arrests meant people would be held for the rest of the convention. A senior Russian military analyst warned yesterday that the U.S. and NATO had used the conflict in Georgia as a dress rehearsal for a future military operation in Iran. Col. Amnesty International documents the 20th anniversary of the massacre of prisoners in Iran. It notes that no one has been held accountable for this atrocity. Full text at link. Twenty years after the then Iranian authorities began a wave of largely secret, summary and mass executions in September 1988, Amnesty International renews its call for those responsible for the “prison massacre” to be held accountable. The Iranian Regime has used riot police to attack telecom workers in Shiraz who were on strike due to unpaid wages. Full text at link. The workers of Iran Telecommunications Industry in Shiraz, in southern Iran, have not been paid for five months.
