And what are kingdoms but fair thievish purchases? For what are thieves’ purchases but little kingdoms? For in thefts the hands of the underlings are directed by the commander, the confederacy of them is sworn together, and the pillage is shared by the law amongst them. And if those ragamuffins grow up to be able enough to keep forts, build habitations, possess cities, and conquer adjoining nations, then their government is no more called thievish, but graced with the eminent name of a kingdom, given and gotten, not because they have left their practices, but because now they may use them without danger of law. read full story / add a comment

The Fianna Fail Roadshow lumbered down to the dept of the Environment* headed up by Dick Roche to unveil the new Planning and development Bill, subtitled the Strategic Infrastructure Bill (2006). The crony lobby headed up by IBEC, CIF and other nice organisations involved in heritage grabbing (KMPG, and NRA) had their day. Since the abolition of Duchas in 2003 , the outdated(undated) Code of Practice governing the NRA re the identification, excavation and destruction of our history, there have been two planning acts. when Mr Roche was asked if there'd be a separate and equivalent legislation read full story / add a comment

international / eu / opinion/analysis Wednesday February 08, 2006 11:57 by iosaf
Thanks to our good manners, lack of religious hatred, and famed inter-cultural tolerance, the Irish people have in the last week become one of the few predominantly blue eyed pasty skinned nations of northern europe with a bit of viking past not to be threatened with armageddon. Our cartoonists and children book authors are safe. Our museum of Islamic literature with its oft overlooked iconoclastic illustrations un-molested, Our embassies proud and inviolate. & our butter sales have gone up. Time my friends to remind ourselves of our commercial relations with the state of Iran. ____________________________________________________ read full story / add a comment

meath / environment / news report Sunday January 29, 2006 02:41 by Michael O'Callaghan
The German company BASF Plant Science GmbH (an affilate of the giant transnational chemicals and drugs company BASF) has notified the EPA of its intention to deliberately release GMO potatoes into the environment 9km south of the Hill of tara, on a 2 Ha plot at Arodstown, Summerhill, Co. Meath. The site is located 2km north of the R156 road between Dunboyne and Summerhill (approx. OS grid reference: N 885 500). If given the go-ahead, this would be the first Irish release of GMO crops since protestors ended Monsanto's GMO beet trials in 1998. The Notification submitted by BASF does not appear to include plans for any environmental impact assessment. Farmers, environmental groups and consumers have expressed total opposition to this unwanted experiment which would terminate Ireland's economically valuable GM-free status. The deadline for related public submissions to the EPA is 5pm on 22 February 2006. read full story / add a comment

Factual disputes regarding the ambit of the tara complex and its definition under current legislation have not been resolved. The testimony of expert witnesses on the discovery of two National monuments at Barronstown and Collierstown disallowed. The State contends that in fact no national monument was discovered on the 38 sites, nor is there legislation protecting the landscape. Chris. read full story / add a comment

The case resumes at eleven o clock ,in court eleven on Tuesday morning. The response to Meath County Council, the NRA and the State continues. Thank you to the campaigners, activists, heritage group reps and historians who have sat in court with us everyday. The lack of opposition spokespeople is noted. The case has been long and sometimes the risible claims of the oppostion have entertained everyone, I think the intention was to bore us to death ,in one particular case. I have not been able to report here due to constant interference with my line and the loss of my regular e-mail address at dotliath@eircom.net If you can attend , please do. A meeting to discuss the legal case and other actions will be posted soon. Chris. read full story / add a comment
