I cam across this tale whilst having coffee in leafy D4, in the Baggot Street area and this tied in with something that I had heard a few weeks ago in that Palace of Epicurian Delights the Embassy Grill in Ballsbridge.

The story is about corporate greed, arogance and "murky stuff" which links back to the rendition flights out of shannon. read full story / add a comment

The arrival of CIA torture rendition plane N475LC at shannon at about 1.20 am this morning was witnessed by Edward Horgan, Conor Cregan, and Garda Pat Harte and Garda Karen Fitzgerald, who were watching Cregan and Horgan at the time. Immediate requests for this plane to be searched were immediatly refused.

Photos of this aircraft taken at shannon can be found at this web address:

A google search on N475LC will show up all the information the Gardai need to justify carrying out a search on this plane. read full story / add a comment

A weekend of workshops, talks and films will be held in Seomra Spraoi from 16th-18th November. The purpose of the weekend is to get people new to activism from various backgrounds and groups to meet up, get to know each other and learn from the experience of the current Gluaiseacht activists and others. We hope to create enthusiasm for the various campaigns and some formal and informal networks which would kick-start some serious activism through Gluaiseacht and the other groups invited to participate.

Afghanistan was the first target in 2001 in revenge for the 9/11 attacks on the US. Ireland offered shannon airport to the US for this attack.
The attack on Iraq had no such revenge motivation, just a grab for oil, as recently confirmed by Alan Greenspan, former US Treasury secretary. Ireland has allowed 1 million US troops pass through shannon since March 2003.
Now, Iran is the next likely target, probably within the next few months. shannon and Irish airspace will again be used in direct and indirect support for any such attack on Iranian nuclear facilties. The fallout once again will be human lives, but this time there will also be nuclear fallout. It is long past the time for action to prevent Ireland's participation in these crimes against humanity.

RTÉ has announced a programme in its Hidden History series making controversial claims about IRA sectarianism during the War of independence. This is how RTE is currently publicising it:

Guns and Neighbours: The Killings at Coolacrease
“The bloody tale of a bitter land dispute, involving a family of Protestant farmers in County Offaly, which comes to a deadly conclusion during the War of Independence. Featuring interviews with descendants of the men who carried out the killings, this portrait of a forgotten atrocity features substantial newspaper archive research, IRA witness statements and military documents from the period.”
