Amnesty International today launched a report that sheds further light on the extent of Europe's role in the US-led rendition and secret detention programmes. It also exposes the continuing failure of European states, including Ireland, to admit or investigate violations carried out by their nationals or on their territory. read full story / add a comment

The crew or crews of CIA plane have had a busy time recently, including a visit to Guantanamo on 3 June 2008. They arrived at Shannon on Friday 13 June, from Fort Lauderdale in Florida, via Newfoundland. They spent only about 30 minutes refuelling and left immediately for an unknown destination or destinations. On Saturday 14th June they were back at Shannon refuelled and again left quickly at about 12.40 pm on their way back to Florida again via Newfoundland. Today N54PA is back at Shannon for up to 10 hours as its crew probably "rest off" following their ardous and possibly nefarious activities read full story / add a comment

Three plane-loads of US troops on OMNI Air chargered troop-carriers were at Shannon today 17 June 2008 between 10 am and 11am. They were accompanied by an Evergreen International Boeing 757 that was most likely carrying military logistics including munitions through the airport. Also on the airport was a suspect Bulgarian aircraft, associated in the past with transport of munitions. read full story / add a comment

Shannon was very quiet this morning with very few "civilian" passengers. Just a few Ryanair jets and even less Aer Lingus, now that they decamped to Belfast.
Much of the business at Shannon was breaching Irish neutrality.
More importantly, the CIA and military use of Shannon this morning was directly complicit in breaches of the UN Convention against Torture and international laws including the Geneva Conventions on War. read full story / add a comment

We must continue to connect up the dotted lines in the web of deceipt, mass murder, torture and militarisation that is being facilitated at Shannon airport.
The Lisbon Treaty, with its NATO entanglement is part of this growing web, as is Ireland's fraudulent neutrality.

Well over one million US troops have transited through Shannon airport since 20 March 2003.
CIA are still using Shannon as a refuelling stop for its torture rendition planes, usually at about 2 am in the morning. Torture is best hidden in the dark of night.
One million US troops fighting unlawful wars, also need millions of tons of military cargo including depleted uranium bombs, so that they can more easily kill innocent people. When one is engaged in an unlawful war, all the victims of such a war are innocent. The principal unlawful combatants in Iraq are the US military and US and other colaition of the willing mercenaries such as Blackwater. read full story / add a comment

Applicants for asylum are the latest targets in efforts to quietly legalize imprisonment without trial for people who have never been accused of any wrong. Two EU countries have now followed the lead of the US: where this policy was the first legal stepping stone in the nefarious "rendition" program of kidnapping, imprisonment, disappearance and torture without cause. read full story / add a comment

The following letter has been published in the Irish Times on 9th May 2008. This is a significant development, because the Gardai and the Irish Government authorities have clearly failed to carry out their duties towards prevention of the crimes of torture at Shannon airport. This however does not relieve the citizens of Ireland of their responsibilty to prevent torture. It is the moral and legal duty of all Irish citizens to take 'all neccessary means' to prevent the possible continuing use of Shannon airport by the CIA and the US military for the purpose of transporting prisoners for torture. read full story / add a comment

The monthly Shannon vigil to highlight the airport’s involvement in acts of torture and war was held on Easter Sunday, 23 March 2008. Commercial news organisations are already carrying the story that earlier today three "pro-Tibetans" were arrested at Mount Olympus, Greece after attempting to disrupt the beginning of the Olympic Torch route. But most newspapers & TV portals will not highlight the specific group responsible for the action; Reporters Sans Frontiers or RSF members used their press privileges to bypass tight security & wave their banner. By doing so they have endangered press privileges & cast any doubt aside as to the true nature of the supposed "pro-Tibetan" nature of the recent global mobilisation against the Olympiad (first) & Peoples' Republic of China (second). read full story / add a comment

Five years on from the invasion of Iraq by the US people still are taking to the street to say 'Not in Our name'.

The Irish Anti-war Movement along with PANA and millions of people all over the world joined together to say no to an imperial war, phoney arguments and greed for oil. Rain falls in Dublin while bombs, destruction and devastation rains down on Iraq. Another world is possible. read full story / add a comment
