On Wednesday 9th August Anti War protesters in Derry stormed into the local plant of US missile manufacturer raytheon. They were protesting against the use of raytheon technology by the Israelis and used by them in their attacks in Lebanon.

After eight hours in occupation of the plant nine protesters were arrested by the PSNI and were charged with "Unlawful Assembly" and "Aggravated Burglary" when they appeared in court this morning (Thursday Aug 10th). read full story / add a comment

The 9 have been charged with the scheduled offences of Unlawful Assembly and Aggravated Burglary. Some (if not all) are appearing before 'Londonderry' Court House on Bishop St at 10 am today, Thursday. It's understood that some of them were held overnight at Coleraine PSNI barrackes and the rest at Strand Road Barracks. Not sure if the charges are under new so-called anti-terror laws, but will check. Noisy Protests have been called for 9.30 am outside Bishop st Court House in Derry. read full story / add a comment

raytheon, Branch Road, Derry

FEIC first dug its memorial grave dedicated to the people of Fallujah on Friday 19 November. Since then the grave has been desecrated and reinstated dozens of times. Despite raytheon’s attempts to erase this memorial, we continue at this site of struggle to remember the nameless and numberless dead murdered with raytheon’s product in Iraq. This Saturday, we will dig the grave again.

It is worth reflecting on the words of one US Army soldier in Fallujah, -- Lieutenant Colonel Brennan Byrne, commander of 1st Battalion of the 5th Marine Regiment. Interviewed by Robert D. Kaplan, The Atlantic Monthly (published in July/August 2004 as Five Days in Fallujah), he said:

"The bad guys only have what God gave them; we have what raytheon gave us."

STATE OF PLAY - Well it 's 18 months since we managed to disable a U.S. Navy war plane at Shannon Airport. The plane was the only piece of military equipment turned around by the international peace movement and sent back to Texas. Meanwhile we were sent to Limerick prison. Initially denied any bail at all, we eventually had very restrictive bail conditions imposed - a ban from County Clare, a ban from a mile radius of the U.S. Embassy & signing on at a specific Garda Station daily. read full story / add a comment

Approximately 150 people gathered today in Guildhall Square, Derry in a show of solidarity with Iraqi victims of British military violence. The crowd gathered around a large black cloth map of Iraq as they listened to families read accounts of how their own relatives were killed by the British military in Derry and Belfast. The families’ testimonials also included references to particular Iraqi victims of British state violence. The event was covered by local radio and news media who photographed and interviewed families. read full story / add a comment
