It has been long observed that people for some reason on their non-banking days readily absorb shite about Dangerous Places, Famous People, Sensible Saving Options, Holidays, Interesting facts, Sport results, Media, gardening and health as well looking ahead at “democratic evolution” and looking back at "how history was made" and reminding all of the old enemy "Authoritarianism". I am finally about to explain to all of you "believer or not" why the election of Ratzinger as "black pope" was so terribly important to us. ____________________________________ read full story / add a comment

On December 9th 2005 Irish people from all walks of life who care about people been treated with decency and honesty in the workplace took to the streets to protest Irish ferries attempt to introduce slavery into Ireland. The protest was more akin to a people marching toward justice rather then the carnival like anti war demos of recent years. The march in Dublin was my first of view of how Irelands labour movement looks when mobilized and it looks good. Imagine what we could achive if the leaders of that movement woke up and fought for the people they are supposed to fight for? What follows is my account of the march. I am a memeber of the IBOA however the opinions given in the article are entirly my own. read full story / add a comment

The social welfare office is a bleak place to find yourself on a summer’s afternoon. It's decrepit decor of ruddy orange plastic chairs and ratty gray carpets, scarred with cigarette burns from anxious claimants testify to a lack of state investment and care . With every text and fag leaving another dent in a miserly bank balance, attempting to navigate signing on for the first time is more obstacle course than a walk in the park. read full story / add a comment

After 3 1/2 years of activism - 3 of which have been spent on bail & in legal jeopardy - Dublin Catholic Worker defendants are taking 6 months off! The length of the legal process, absence form family & friends, limited resources have all taken their toll and demand that most of the defendants have to leave Dublin for a time. We'll be back at the beginning of June organizing around our third trial and in opposition to continued Irish participation in the U.S invasion of Iraq. We are hoping to keep our house going and are wondering if there are any sympathetic folks interested in renting in a shared house with an anti-war orientation and solidarity with the ploughshares defendants. If interested phone 087 918 4552. Today is the 25th anniversary of our founder Dorothy Day's death.... read full story / add a comment
