This article which appeared in the Southern Star was reposted by Shell To Sea and is now reposted by Indymedia because it recounts the plunder of our fishing resources by foreign countries and how just like our Oil and Gas resources, these were given away by our own politicians. These politicians are the direct ideological descendants of the right wing counter-revolutionaries who completely over turned the ideals of 1916 and have ruled this country ever since. This whole area of how our fishing resources have been taken away from us needs to be highlighted more and a campaign is needed to take back this resource and ensure it is managed sustainably. read full story / add a comment

Today campaigners of the Robin Hood Tax Campaign presented a cheque for €1.8bn at Leinster House in Dublin. It represents the amount of revenue a Financial Transaction Tax (FTT) could raise over the 5 year lifespan of the next Government. Also called the Robin Hood Tax, its implementation would oblige financial institutions to pay a tiny tax on trading in bonds, shares and derivatives. read full story / add a comment

Bord Pleanala have refused a request by CHASE for an extension to the Oral Hearing date for Indavers Ringaskiddy incinerator application and confirmed that the Oral Hearing will start on 19 April at Carrigaline Court Hotel at 10.30am, citing 12 July 2016 as deadline date under Strategic Infrastructure Process. CHASE wrote to An Bord Pleanala following receipt of registered letters on 31 March/1st April advising of the hearing date, leaving just 12 working days preparation for the hearing. Previous hearings lasted 3 weeks. Bord Pleanala received over 220 submissions objecting to the proposal, each of which was accompanied by a payment of 50Euro. Objections were made by all 4 TD’s for the South Central area, including Defence Minister Simon Coveney, Fine Fail Party Leader Micheal Martin, Michael McGrath (FF) and newly elected Sinn Fein TD Donnchadh O’Laoghaire. read full story / add a comment |
