While the big rugby international match in Croke Park between France and Ireland was taking place a young string trio - Rothko - gave a recital this afternoon of an interesting program of music in Holy Trinity Church, Carlingford, Co Louth. Athletes, trainers, mammies and daddies and fans from many parts of the world - notably Africa, Poland, England, Scotland, France and the USA - gathered for a cross-country running meet in St Fechins' GAA grounds in Termonfeckin today. The meeting kicked off at 12.00 noon with underage races. The men's and the women's race took place on either side of 3.00 p.m. The track was fast and flat and it did not churn up despite the many races which took place on the day. read full story / add a comment

On Wed the 20th September Ógra Shinn Féin Co Lú ran a recruitment drive in Dundalk Institute of Technology. The Cumann has been in the college for three years and until this year was the only active political society in the Institute. The drive went very well receiving a great deal of attention from students and improving on the number of members for last year. A number of senior party members attended, including Louth TD Arthur Morgan, Caitríona Ruane MLA and the next TD for Meath Councillor Joe Reilly. read full story / add a comment

In an atmosphere of hustle, hassle, harass, hurry it is difficult to think straight. Even those who can think under pressure would surely think more clearly if there were peace. We need to settle down and get our heads together because we are approaching a decisive political cross-roads in Ireland. There may be tiredness and frustration on one hand and powerful, discordant and divisive voices on the other. Now is not the time to allow ourselves to be manipulated any further. A Mass will be held in St Patrick¹s Cathedral Dundalk on Tuesday 3rd October 2006 at 7.30pm. this is to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the ten young Irish men who died on Hunger Strike in Long Kesh in 1981 for political status. It is also to commemorate the sacrifice made by their two comrades Micheal Gaughan who died on Hunger Strike June 3rd 1974 Parkhurst Gaol and Frank Stagg who died on Hunger Strike 12th February 1976 Wakefield Prison. The Mass has been organised to mark the ending of the 1981 Hunger Strike on the 3rd of October 1981 and to mark this tragic period in Irish history in a proper, fitting and dignified manner.
