On Friday, October 5th, a British military band are scheduled to play at the K Club in Co Kildare. The event has been co-organised by the the Security and Emergency Services Ireland Forum (SESIF) and The Jack and Jill Foundation, with the proceeds from the event being donated to the latter organisation. The SESIF is an organisation which purports to represent those who work in the 'ambulance, coast guard, fire, military, police, rescue and prisons' services. In reality much of its energies are devoted to rehabilitating the image of the paramilitary PSNI and the British Army in Ireland. The Jack and Jill Foundation is a children's charity which provides support to sick children and their families. read full story / add a comment

Farcical charges ahead of an anti-internment March in Dublin, have been re-instated by the British against Marian Price again, creating further internment again by remand. Charges previously thrown out of court by a judge and dismissed against four people, including former hunger striker Marian Price have been re-instated by the Public Prosecution Service of British Occupied Ireland. Marian Price's lawyer said she was seriously ill and may not be fit to appear in court.The charges relate to a traditional Easter republican ceremony in Derry in April 2011. read full story / add a comment

A report released on Monday raises concerns that an animal handler working for Courtney Brothers’ Circus, which has travelled the length and breadth of the country this year, was allowed to bypass EU animal health regulations when importing four Asian elephants currently being used in the circus’ shows. From the 10th to 16th of August, Rossport Solidarity Camp hosted it's 3rd wind turbine building course. You can read a report of the first one here: http://www.indymedia.ie/article/95731. As the 3 previous turbines that were built are still going strong (and powering both the camp and camp house), this year it was decided to go for something bigger and more challenging. This year it's was decided to build a 4.2 metre turbine that is planned eventually to be connected to the grid at the house of a local Shell to Sea campaigner. read full story / add a comment

Observers of the north of Ireland are from time to time caught by surprise when the reality of life here contradicts their belief in a steady progress towards normality. Such a moment came outside a Catholic church in Belfast. A 12th July demonstration by one band playing a hate song went viral on Facebook and led to restrictions on further band processions outside the church. The decision of Orange order bands to break the Parades Commission ruling about marching and playing outside the Church was accompanied by unrestrained expressions of sectarian hatred more or less unlimited in the depths of bigotry that were unleashed. read full story / add a comment
