Hundreds protested at the Dail today against the government after it's return from its summerbreak.
The day got off to an eventful start with a cement truck strategically driving into the front gates of the Dail leaving only scratch marks on the paint. Unlike previous protests at Anglo irish banks, there were no barricades with a much thinner blue line. read full story / add a comment

SIPTU members joined with hundreds of workers on the joint Trade Union Rally against proposed cuts at Belfast City Hall today (Wednesday 29th September.)

The NIC - ICTU rally was organised to coincide with the European day of action against austerity measures and drastic cuts to public services by Government's across the continent.

The rally included a number of speakers including Peter Bunting from ICTU and Patricia McKeown of Unison, with all speakers gaining a great response with rapturous applause from the enthusiastic audience.

SIPTU members defiantly demonstrated with placards and flags, backing the united call that workers should not pay for the irresponsible actions of the bankers.

The two intrepid reporters approached the Dáil, hoping to have some serious questions answered, armed with a camera and a butt plug, just in case.

A big lorry came and parked outside the Dail in an act of protest about toxic banks. Reporters were later to be seen spinning the story that it had tried to crash through the gates. Later still, politicians were defecating the same thing. We had enough. We produced the butt plug. The politicians seemed to like it.

More info The Socialist Party for Workers and Messers will be joining the Irish Trade Union Congress protest at the Dail on Wed September 29th - we will be marching from Anglo Irish Bank at 12.30 noon and then joining the Congress protest at the Dail at 1.00pm.

Sept 29th is the 1st day back for the Dail and is also the 2nd anniversary of the banking guarantee.

The €35 Billion? we gave Anglo Irish Bank is enough to employ everyone on the Live Register for 3 years on 33,000 a year.
