A ban on trade union donations to the Labour Party will not benefit anyone other than the enemies of the working class and the organised working class in particular. The Green Party leader John Gormley has announced that the ban is to be introduced, alongside a ban on corporate donations, so much for the Green Party’s veneer of radicalism. This “radicalism” has become very stale and particularly mouldy also. Of course the proposed legislation is designed to appear even handed. But the truth of the matter is that the link between Labour and the working class is potentially very important and the bourgeois understand that very well. read full story / add a comment

Today the Catalan parliament became the 2nd of the Spanish state's regional legislatures to prohibit bull fighting following the decision by the Canary islands. The Canary decision was more palatable for afficionados of bullfighting because they had never had a tradition of the ritual which leaves neither side indifferent. The decision by the Catalan parliament to become the first Iberian mainland regional government to prohibit bullfights (noting that the tradition is practised in Portugal as well) has of course been and was going to be linked to Catalonia's resentment of the insistence of the Spanish state to homogenise identity and culture to the detriment of its own plurality. read full story / add a comment |
