If Ms de Burca's allegations are to be believed as written her unbridled personal column in today's Irish Times, it would seem that not only have the Greens lost their moral compass ; they have buried it under a host of erstwhile worthy principles. In these circumstances t'would be well were the Green's to bury this current arrangement of their party system and try to reform themselves rigorously before they attempt to resurrect themselves , with any credibility. read full story / add a comment

The Northern Ireland Assembly Minister for Culture, Nelson McCausland, has accused the minority community in Portadown of pursuing a policy of ‘cultural apartheid’. This is a gross and insulting distortion of the facts. The International Criminal Court defined apartheid as being inhumane acts 'committed in the context of an institutionalized regime of systematic oppression and domination by one racial group over any other racial group or groups and committed with the intention of maintaining that regime'. read full story / add a comment

Animal rights activist, Robert Ševcik, walks out of court a free man yet again. For the third waste of time, to be precise. Sergeant Eamon Lynch of Pearse St Garda station, with the aid of the DPP, brought a prosecution against Mr Ševcik, stemming from a protest and a work of obvious fiction that was composed in November of 2008. COPY of email: Todays (Wednesday 9th Feb.) sentences were: Pat O Donnell (the Chief) sentenced to 3 months and 4 mths consecutive. Don't know the charges. we dont know yet what prison he is being sent to. Niall from the Camp got 240 hours community service. Martin McDonnell got 4 months suspended for 2 years with a bond to keep the peace. Tony King and Kevin Moran each got a fine of €500. All of these cases were appeals. From Wednesday the 27th to Sunday the 31st of January, the Rossport Solidarity Camp hosted a wind power workshop. Local people and campers united to learn metal work, wood work and electronics to produce a fully functional 2.4 meter diameter wind turbine, now supplying power to the off-grid Rossport Solidarity House. The use of farmer's shed for the week was kindly by donated which was the perfect base for the workshop. The course was led by V3 Power, a workers co-operative based in Nottingham specialising in teaching courses in how to build DIY wind turbines. read full story / add a comment
