On Thursday July 29th the HSE were presented with 5,000 signatures on petitions demanding the maintaining of A&E services in Ennis, Nenagh and St.John’s Hospitals. The Socialist Party, who collected the petitions, claim that this is only the beginning and that an active campaign must be built. Socialist Party spokesperson, Cian Prendiville said: “The HSE are unlikely to give up on their agenda of centralisation and cutbacks without a fight. Petitions can be a first step, but what is needed is for people to come along to the upcoming health forum on July 29th and use it as a launching pad for a local action group.” read full story / add a comment

A National Republican Youth Weekend is set for Derry City on 15 – 17 August. The weekend will coincide with the National Hungerstrike Rally which for the first time in 27 years is being organised outside of Belfast. The weekend which is open to everyone, will include, historical tours, talks, workshops and craic agus ceol, and will see young republicans come from across Ireland. Scandal of Justice Continues: New Extension of Remand in Custody for Austrian Animal Protectionists Because the suspects refused to renounce animal protection, their remand in custody was extended on the grounds that there remains the risk they will perpetrate criminal offences! The District Court of Wiener Neustadt extended the remand in custody of the ten animal protectionists for a further two months today. Even after inspection of the numerous computers and photos that have been confiscated, not one single substantiating charge has been added and many of the existing charges that made the strong impression of having been fabricated have already been dropped by the Chief Public Prosecutor. Nevertheless, the authorities insist on further remanding the animal protectionists in custody. read full story / add a comment
