A young antifascist skinhead activist , Jan Kucera , has been brutally slain during a clash with a number of neo nazis in the small town of Pibram , just outside of Prague in the czech republic . Tensions between fascists and anti fascists have been high in that area since the successful mobilisation in November in which anti fascists and anarchists physically prevented neo nazis from staging a despicable rally in the centre of Pragues historic Jewish quarter to mark the anniversary of the nazis Kristalnacht pogrom against the jews of Germany during the 1930s .

We had decided to have our breakfast on the henge this morning. As I drove towards the N3 a low loader carrying a digger was driving towards Lismullen. Approx 10 protestors arrived in Lismullen, some from the road and some from Rath Lugh. Security were present during the entire time we were there. 2 protestors were assaulted within a few minutes of arriving. I tried to block the fuel coming out of the Lismullen carpark but Mark Cleary kept pushing me out of the way and the fuel tractor got away. Steve from Kildare, one of the security men assaulted another protestor, he was pulled from the fence and thrown onto the ground head first, and hurt his neck. read full story / add a comment

In Davos today, Shell's Chief Executive has said energy demand growth this year would be higher than last.

"I look at the energy industry, and of course we look at the total economic climate, but we don't see any reason for panic," Jeroen van der Veer told reporters at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland.

This scandal came to a head after one of the paper's co-authors, Shane Morris (an Irish biotech scientist with a degree from NUI Maynooth who is advising Fine Gael on GM food and farming issues), threatened legal action against the GM-free Ireland Network and GM Watch after we exposed him as a Canadian Government agent and reported that his paper has been described as "misleading" and a "flagrant fraud". The healthcare system, upon which people in Ireland depend, is an apartheid system. Simply put, some lives are worth more than others. Rare attempts at reform have been stymied by historic, chronic underspending and vested interests. This legacy has forced the vast majority of working people to take out private health insurance and has laid the foundations for a neo-liberal push towards an American-style system of private medicine. read full story / add a comment

Last Sunday in solidarity with the people of Rossport, Ógra Shinn Féin held a protest outside the offices of Statoil Ireland in Dublin. The protest was to highlight the continue involvement of Statoil, a Norwegian state industry, in the theft of Irish natural resources and endangerment of the Rossport community, through dirty deals with Shell and the 26 county government.

Young Republican delegates from across Ireland and representatives of International youth movements mobilised in Dublin this weekend to take part in a packed and upbeat Ógra Shinn Féin National Congress.

Sinn Fein President, Gerry Adams delivered the main address and helped launch Ógra’s new drugs and alcohol campaign called N.A.R.C. (Not Another Ravaged Community) campaign.

The Sinn Féin President told the assembled; Comhdháil Náisúnta, that the Lisbon treaty was a bad deal for Ireland.

“The Lisbon Treaty, like many of the treaties that went before it, does not deliver reform, efficiency or democracy. It is a bad deal for Ireland. We deserve and can achieve better.”

At around lunchtime in Europe, when we're grabbing sandwiches or sitting down to plates of pasta or green salads (or skulling pints in the Stag's Head) the financial markets in Wall Street open. Usually they react to the morning's trading in the European markets, and so US traders seeing falling prices as a buying opportunity can offset a downward trend. Yesterday however, the holiday for Martin Luther King meant the falls on the global markets went from bad, to worse, to unbelievably bad, while in America the boys in the sharp suits were at home celebrating racial diversity and civil rights. read full story / add a comment

Many readers will ask- what on Earth is this person on about??

Of course the Government wants to stop violence!!!!!!!!

Does it really??

No, that is propaganda.

Violent men and women are rewarded by the system in secret courts not open to the public.

Secret courts are supposed to keep the childs identity secret.!!

That is not what is being kept secret at all.

Rather- it is the corruption of the state agents, lawyers, judges etc that is kept hidden. read full story / add a comment

The Irish Film Institute is screening an award-winning film, initially banned in its native Sri Lanka, on the grounds that it demoralises the military and is a threat to national security. Purahanda Kaluwara (Death on a Full Moon Day) deals with the human fallout of the ongoing conflict between the Sri Lankan government and the Tamil Tigers. Directed by Prassanna Vithanage, it won the prestigious Grand Prix at the Amiens Film Festival and has become one of the most successful films in Sri Lanka?s 50-year cinema history. read full story / add a comment
