The Alliance for Animal Rights (AFAR) are accusing Estee Lauder's Crème de la Mer and Aer Rianta Retail of gross cruelty, repedative neglect and negligence to Seahorses and their young over the past year in Dublin Airport.

The Animal Rights group and other welfare groups were alerted to the situation when dead seahorses were seen in the tank at departures in Dublin Airport. Staff at the Airport and travellers using the route to Departures contacted the group.

SEPTEMBER 2006.

To show our support for the SHAC 7 in USA we destroyed over 70 advertising signs for the Courtney Vegas so called 'American' circus from Wexford in Ireland. This circus now in Balgriffin uses animals in its acts and we have vowed to continue removing their advertising until they stop dragging animals around Ireland.

Two MEAT RETAILER directional signs were taken and butchered in retaliation for the dead animals slaughtered for profit and sold in his shop in Dublin.

Over 500 people turned out today for a great march against the US/UK war on Iraq and Afghanistan. Starting in Parnell Square it made its way down O'Connell where the suppport of passers by was occasionally made clear by cheers of support, up Dame Street and back down to the island on O'Connell St where we were all corralled during the speeches. It isn't clear why the organisers agreed to this corralling because it meant that almost no-one could see the speakers. Speakers were generally interesting - great to hear the Raytheon 9 spokesperson - but mostly were the same people who speak at every IAWM march or variations of same. Overall a good demo and fair play to the organisers.

Shannon next on October 28th for the demo called by Antiwar Ireland! read full story / add a comment

As a youth political organisation which has been established and active in three UU campuses, Magee, Coleraine and Jordanstown for a number of years, we cannot understand nor accept the decision taken.

In an atmosphere of hustle, hassle, harass, hurry it is difficult to think straight. Even those who can think under pressure would surely think more clearly if there were peace. We need to settle down and get our heads together because we are approaching a decisive political cross-roads in Ireland. There may be tiredness and frustration on one hand and powerful, discordant and divisive voices on the other. Now is not the time to allow ourselves to be manipulated any further. Every individual must assert his and her rights and think clearly for themselves. read full story / add a comment

Rice’s new’ Middle East is depressingly and wearyingly familiar to anyone with even a cursory knowledge of the history of imperialist interventions in the region. Just like those British and French colonialists who sat over maps a century ago redrawing boundaries across the Middle East, the US, the UK and the Israelis imagine they can shape a subcontinent regardless of the needs or desires of the majority of the people who live there. read full story / add a comment

The Irish government’s explicit support for Shell’s proposed development in Rossport, against the demands and wishes of a large proportion of the locally affected community, exemplifies not only the highly organised and funded public relation strategy that Shell and its partners have used. It also highlights the massive democratic deficit in this country. In a broader sense corporate Public Relations, and it’s close links to government, is perhaps one of the most potent factors in curtailing meaningful democracy. read full story / add a comment

The need for an international standing army to prevent horrendous massacres is no more clearly demonstrated than in the case of Sudan's cursed Darfur zone, which is in free fall.

The risk to civilians there is greater now than at any time since the conflict first erupted. The African Union peacekeepers' mandate expires at the end of this month, and Sudan has rejected entry of a UN peacekeeping force.

Aid agencies - the lifeline for 2.5 million people - are threatening to pull out as a result of the direct targeting of humanitarians, leaving the already devastated civilian population further exposed and at risk.

Sudan plans instead to send in a large number of its own troops. Given the government's record, it seems quite likely that - with international observers out of the way - Khartoum can get on with the business of completing the genocide that it already under way. read full story / add a comment

Lightswitch is a Dublin based production company promising to bring theatre goers the 'ridiculously serious and the seriously ridiculous.' If its chaotic humour and a theatre of the absurd they aspire to then through a healthy mangling of a Greek classic with Antigone Interactive, they hit the nail partially on the head but falter at the point of audience interaction and political depth. The Antigone lead comes across oozing sassy stylistic rebellion like a photo shot prepped baile funk star MIA - all gun belt for show and Che Guevara t-shirt as poseurish portend to an inevitable martyrdom for ritually burying her brother against her father's edicts. read full story / add a comment

The Drimagh Anti Bin Tax Campaign has organised very effective protests at Davitt Road Depot over the last two Saturdays. Over 250 people have turned up at the depot, wheelie bins in tow and have disposed of waste bags in an effective and organised fashion at the depot in protest at the non collection of our bins for non payment of the double tax of Bin Tax. These protests have served two purposes. 1. Solidarity and public protest at non collection and 2.a practical way for people who cannot dispose of their waste into the bin trucks on the mornings of the collection because of work. read full story / add a comment

There are few details but a woman from the Congo had refused a blood transfusion
after haemorraging this morning at the Coombe, women's Hospital. She had given birth
to a baby boy.

Complications ensued which led to the loss of 80% of her blood.
She refused Transfusion.
The Coombe Applied to the Courts.
The Court ordered the transfusion.
Mainstream is calling it a landmark decision.

Questions:- Is birth , the birthing process a mental illness/a physical illness?
Does the patient have the right to a voice in their treatment.
Was she made a ward of court in order for the Hospital authority to over-rule
her wishes which coukd have been ethical/religious. read full story / add a comment
