(Reference to Editorial matters removed from beside author name) The armed group of basque seperatism has made a statement on its view of the current peace process in the Basque region and the Spanish state. A statement which has alarmed many in that is indicates a return to violence. ETA speaks of a process in crises and complains of "continuing state attacks on the Basques" & speaks of its right to "respond" to such attacks and concludes that the Spanish state is not observing the conditions of the ceasefire. The statement made this morning follows 4 others after the "total cessation" of March 22nd. In which 3 ETA members read for a TV audience of 30million a 261 word statement which saw the word "democratic" used 5 times. Each supplemental statement has concerned some element of the basque seperatist agenda such as prisoners, a call (rejected) to France to join a table of negotiation & the residual (irrendist) claims on the region of Navarra. This summer , the tribunals damning of Garda behaviour in Abbeylara, In the Morris Tribunal and the annual scree of reports by government appointed committees ensure that the old aversion to ensuring humane treatment of prisoners, children in care and citizens in trauma is part of this right-wing governments modus operandi. The annual reportage of below-standard and inhumane treatment of the vulnerable in our society is drained, leaked and given media attention in the absence of the Dail and after the outrage: 'a storm in a tea-cup' the well-furnished TD's can return to the hallowed halls of Kildare Street, assured of it's vote majority . read full story / add a comment

El pueblo unido jamas sera vencido. Be fully assured of the righteousness of the struggle.
Above are two quotes from a book in the Rossport Solidarity Camp library called 'Clandestines -The Pirate Journals of an Irish Exile' by Ramor Ryan. Ramor describes a memorial concert for a female student leader shot down during the Venezuelan revolution in the early nineties ... and the chant: 'El pueblo unido jamas sera vencido - A united people can never be conquered.' Orla Kaiser from Pallaskenry (http://www.indymedia.ie/article/76611) and Joe Burke & Der Holland from Bantry (http://www.indymedia.ie/article/77007), who all face threat of jail for ignoring high court injunctions instructing them not to protect the health and safety of their families and communities, visited the solidarity camp in Rossport, met with some of the 'Five' and the local Shell to Sea campaigners and received unequivocal support, to be ‘assured of the righteousness of their struggles’ . "The level of defiance and optimism is palpable" - says Shane who donated his friend Ramor's book to the camp library. On Saturday night at the camp it was Joe Burke who was telling us not to give up the fight. On Monday evening Orla & Stefan Kaiser left Mayo with the words of Willie Corduff ringing in her ears. "Don't give up, never give up." read full story / add a comment
